Job summary

The Salvation Army North & Central Illinois Division in Monroe, MI seeks a Shelter Attendant to oversee guests, complete required paperwork, and promote a safe, harmonious shelter environment. Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
• 1+ year working in a shelter environment.
• Must maintain confidentiality and comply with Safe from Harm guidelines and participate in training.

Responsibilities

• Ensure daily paperwork is completed per procedure.
• Maintain shelter policy without discrimination.
• Assist with menu planning.
• Supervise common areas, dorms, lounges, clothing closet, and laundry room.
• De-escalate conflicts and manage crises; demonstrate strong verbal and written communication.
• Perform daily resident/security checks on guests, rooms and exterior of building.
• Attend trainings and staff meetings as directed.
• Cleaning and janitorial work as needed, including laundry.
• Keep dryer vents clear of dust and lint.
• Assist deep cleaning of the kitchen and daily cleaning as needed.
• Floor upkeep in dining room, office, and laundry room.
• Accurately track resident medications under supervision.
• Clean empty rooms after resident exits.
• Communicate shelter supply needs to maintenance or corps officer.
• In absence of cook, perform kitchen duties.
• Help resolve conflicts between residents.
• Remain on duty until replacement arrives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Handle donations as needed.
• Ensure client chores completed timely.
• Process intake and exit paperwork as needed.
• Help with shelter and social services laundry.

Position Summary:

Provide oversight to shelter guests and complete necessary paperwork, attend to the immediate needs of the guests, and encourage safe and harmonious shelter atmosphere.

Essential Responsibilities

• Ensure daily paperwork is completed in accordance with procedure
• Maintain shelter policy without discrimination
• Assist with menu planning
• Supervise common areas, dorms, lounges, clothing closet, and laundry room
• De-escalate conflict and manage crises as necessary, excellent verbal and written communication
• Perform daily resident/security check on guests, rooms, and exterior of building
• General Office duties: answering the phone, filing, typing, record keeping, recording shift summary
• Attend all trainings and staff meetings as directed
• Cleaning and janitorial work as required, including laundry as needed
• Keep dryer vents clear of dust and lint
• Assist deep cleaning of the kitchen; assist with daily cleaning as needed
• Floor upkeep, including dining room, office, laundry room
• Accurately track resident medications that are under the supervision of The Salvation Army
• Clean empty rooms once resident has exited as needed

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

• High School Diploma / GED desired; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
• 1 or more years working in a shelter type environment
• Must maintain confidentiality and comply with Safe from Harm guidelines and participate in training classes

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

• Have and maintain ServSafe Certification, or ability to acquire certification within 1 year

Computer Skills

• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
• Knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint

Certificates And Licenses

• Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
• Have and maintain current CPR/SED/First Aid certification; or ability to gain certification within 90 days
