Job summary

Mercy House seeks an Overnight Shelter Specialist to support the Emergency Shelter Program in Phoenix. This part-time, non-exempt role offers a $22/hour pay rate for overnight work, with Saturday-Sunday night coverage and weekday off.

You will perform nightly deep cleans, wellness checks, provide emergency support, and assist with program logistics such as food distribution and transportation. Strong communication and trauma-informed care are essential.

This position requires strong communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse, vulnerable population.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Logistics and SafetyGoal: Maintain the safety and serenity of residents protecting against external and internal disruptionsProvide an active staff presence during assigned overnight shiftsAssist with general cleanliness and safety of facility including emptying trash cans and cleaning-up spills, and general groundskeepingPerform nightly deep cleans across site to ensure overall health of facilityResolve any conflicts and file incident reports when necessaryProvide necessary emergency support and follow emergency proceduresConduct safety and wellness checksCommunicate potential concerns with security staff to ensure staff and guest safetyProgram SupportGoal: Assist Program Manager with program functions and activitiesEncourage and discuss progress toward housing with shelter guestsProvide general support for guestsObserve and report concerns, violations, and general events in daily staff logsProvide Late-night meals and organize early-morning food distributionExperiencePossess a high level of tolerance and understanding for individuals who present for services with urgent multiple case management and health needsEnsure a client-focused, trauma-informed, and housing-focused shelter approachAbility to perform crisis intervention as neededAbility to work in sync with licensed third-party security officer teamGeneralAttend staff meetings and training workshops as neededA flexible work schedule including some schedule changes, some weekends, and evening shifts to meet the department’s needsDetail-oriented and computer proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel requiredFluency in Spanish is of significant valueThis position requires current CPR certification.
