Job Title: Shelter Shift Supervisor Department: Shelter Services

Mission:

Summary of Position:
Supervising of shelter staff, coaching, mentoring and resolving issues of resident advisor employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but other duties may be assigned:
- Maintain a safe, supportive Trauma Informed environment within the shelter.
- Assist the Licensed Child Care Administrators during resident staffing’s.
- Oversee staff to ensure the supervision and the provision of child-care services that meet the needs of the shelter residents.
- Ensure adequate staff coverage on all shifts
- Ensure and monitor house safety and sanitation to maintain safety of clients and shelter space.
- Assist Nutrition Specialist with maintaining monthly menu to ensure a healthy balanced diet.
- Transport residents when needed
- Work with residents on age-appropriate life skills in preparation independent living (i.e. meal planning, laundry, hygiene, etc.); documenting progress and identifying weaknesses.
- Oversee age-appropriate activities on and off campus based on standards of normalcy within the boundaries of campus safety.
- Ensure that residents and staff comply with shelter routines and schedules
- Support resident and staff in following all shelter procedures and policies
- Help residents work through conflict with others living in the shelter
- Be a positive role model.
- Ensure safety and well-being of the residents in care by reporting any issues of abuse or suspected neglect.
- Communicate and document observations and interactions with the residents to all Shelter Staff.
- Intervene in residents crises under the director of shelter management and in accordance with the Dept. of Family and Protective Services.
- Maintain the shelter program in accordance with Department of Family and ProtectiveServices (DFPS) minimum standards, licensing regulations and best practices.
- Participate in program, department and agency meetings and relevant trainings as required.
- Complete all duties as assigned.Other duties as required.
- Adhere to agency policy, procedures and professional code of ethics.
- Set goals for performance of residential advisors.
- Monitor employee productivity and provide feedback to upper management
- Receive complaints and resolve issues with residential advisors
- Maintain and approve timesheets of direct report staff
- Ensure residential advisors understand and complete their duties and delegated tasks.
- Provide constructive feedback and coaching to direct report staff.
- Manage the hiring, written disciplinary actions, and termination recommendations of employees.
- Ability to work overtime with little notice.
- Will be in on-call rotation for one week at a time. Will need to be able to respond to any emergencies and travel to the shelter with little notice.
Minimum Education and Training:
- Bachelor’s degree in social service or related field preferred or 7 years equivalent experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills in both orally and in written form, and be able to follow detailed instructions
- Outstanding organization and leadership skills
- Good computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
- Ability to connect with youth while maintaining clear personal and professional boundaries.
- Ability to work effectively in constantly changing, demanding and often chaotic environment.
- Experience working with a diverse population including differences in culture, religions, sexual orientation, race and age
- Ability to remain alert and on duty throughout shifts.
- Ability to respond responsibly in emergency and crisis situations.
- Ability to hire and recommend termination of employees

- This job requires a high degree of mental and physical effort due to considerable interruptions and/or frequent changes of activity or workloads during a typical day.
- This position will require the Shelter Shift Supervisor to work a 4 or 5 day schedule.
- Generally, work takes places indoors, but at times, the Shelter Shift Supervisor will be asked to be outside participating in activities with fellow employees and/or clients.
- The Shelter Shift Supervisor may be required to travel in his or her own vehicle to and from the YES to YOUTHMCYS offices, seminars and meetings.
