Job summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a casual shelter assistant in the Richmond, VA area to perform a variety of support functions that keep the emergency shelter safe, clean, and orderly.

The Salvation Army requires a high school diploma or GED, up to one year of security or social service experience, and flexibility to work evenings and weekends. Pay is $13–$14 per hour with benefits and paid leave.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required or equivalent.
• One year security or social service experience preferred.
• Equivalent training/experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Monitor shelter clients for safety, comfort and rule compliance.
• Prepare sleeping and dining areas and maintain orderly intake lines.
• Enforce lights out/curfew/quiet hours and respond to emergencies.
• Keep the daily shelter log and perform light housekeeping.
