Job summary

S:US is seeking a Recreation Coordinator for our families with children shelter in the Bronx. The role is to provide a comprehensive recreational program, develop a monthly calendar with culturally appropriate activities, and ensure safety with empathy and integrity.

The position requires 3+ years of social service experience, an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed approach, and the ability to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings; bilingual skills are preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent experience in human services and social work fields.
• Trauma-informed, client-centered approach with an anti-oppressive lens.
• Clear, non-judgmental communication with residents and families.
• Flexible schedule including weekends and evenings when required.
• Crises are handled with professional maturity and empathy.
• Experience with homelessness, substance use harm reduction, and diverse communities.

Responsibilities

• Plan and supervise recreation and cultural activities for adults and children.
• Develop monthly schedule and supervise after-school and summer programs.
• Maintain safe, age-appropriate recreational spaces and materials.
• Escort residents to events and coordinate with case managers.
• Provide information on schedules and program policies; assist with transit to services.
• Attend supervision, meetings, and training; perform other duties as assigned.
