Job summary

S:US is seeking a Recreation Coordinator for our families shelter in the Bronx to develop and run a comprehensive monthly recreation calendar with culturally appropriate activities. The role emphasizes safety, empathy, and clear communication with residents and staff.

The coordinator will oversee after-school and summer programs, coordinate activities for both adults and children, and ensure spaces are well-maintained and welcoming.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Human Services or GED with 3+ years’ social service experience.
• Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach into work with residents.
• Use neutral and non-judgmental language when responding to residents’ needs.

Responsibilities

• Plan trips and recreational activities for adults and children, and prepare monthly schedules.
• Supervise after-school and summer programs; provide respite care when necessary.
• Maintain safe, age-appropriate recreational spaces with toys, arts and crafts.
