Job summary

The Bangor Humane Society seeks a Director of Operations to assist the Executive Director with administration, budgeting, and shelter management, ensuring humane, cost-effective operations and staff oversight. This role leads training, scheduling, and deployment of staff; maintains animal welfare and coordinates with veterinarians and partners; and promotes community engagement.

Strong leadership, communication, and knowledge of Maine animal welfare laws are essential, with a Bachelor's degree

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Minimum 1 year of supervisory or management experience.
• Experience in animal-related fields preferred.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, train, and evaluate shelter staff across departments.
• Establish standards and monitor compliance with laws and best practices.
• Oversee care, welfare, and medical coordination for animals.
• Maintain relationships with veterinarians, officers, and partners.
• Manage communications and staff meetings; coordinate training.
• Oversee inventory of operational and medical supplies.
