Job summary

The Salvation Army Odessa Lodge in Odessa, TX is seeking a part-time Security/Housing Assistant to support shelter operations. The role includes building security, client intake and discharge, and housekeeping duties. Schedule is 29 hours per week, with a pay rate of about $12.70 per hour.

Responsibilities include enforcing house rules, performing safety checks, coordinating meals and bed assignments, and maintaining resident records. Prior experience in shelter or security is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One year of security or social services experience preferred in a shelter or similar setting.
• Equivalent training/experience accepted.

Responsibilities

• Building security: enforce house rules, inspect bags for prohibited items, secure areas, monitor alarms and respond to emergencies.
• Intake and discharge: handle client intake, run checks, maintain intake cards and roster, update files, obtain signatures, manage meal/shower tickets and bed assignments.
• Housekeeping: assign daily chores, assist with cleaning and maintenance, inspect facilities, safeguard Salvation Army property.

Job Details: Job Location: TX-Odessa Lodge - Odessa, TX 79761, Education Level: High School Diploma/GED, Salary Range: $12.70, Job Category: Housing, Schedule/Hours: 29 Hours Part time

This position is responsible for:

• Building Security Responsibilities (60%)
• Ensures clients comply with house rules; checks client’s baggage for drugs, alcohol, weapons and pornography; records incidents and notifies supervisor of any special circumstances or unusual problems; ensures security of facility and clients; arms and disarms alarms in accordance with lodge policy; locks and secures area inappropriate for client entry.
• Responds to emergencies in a calm manner and initiates appropriate actions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Intake and Discharge Responsibilities (20%)
• Answers telephone and respond to questions regarding the shelter operations.
• Performs client intake procedures including running sexual offender checks; checks clients into the shelter; prepares and monitors client intake cards; prepares and maintains resident roster.
• Updates client files as needed; obtains client’s signature on forms as well as house rules and regulations.
• Prepares and distributes meal and shower tickets, assigns bed numbers; distributes towels, linens and personal hygiene items; secures and distributes client medications as required.
• Housekeeping and Chore Distribution Responsibilities (20%)
• Assigns daily cooking, cleaning, and maintenance chores to clients and ensures completion of such; as needed, participates in the cleaning and maintenance of facilities, supplies, and equipment; inspects facility on a routine basis to ensure compliance with established standards; ensures return and accountability of The Salvation Army property (linens, etc.).

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Knowledge of effective and efficient methods for organizing and maintaining records and ability to perform the same.
• Knowledge of general office procedures and practices.
• Knowledge of basic record keeping practices and procedures.
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients to control, lead, and motivate behavior.
• Ability to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of people and remain sensitive to their concerns.
• Ability to work independently and with limited supervision while enforcing established policies and procedures.
