Job summary

East Bay SPCA in Oakland, CA seeks a Shelter Medicine Associate to provide medical care for shelter and foster animals. You will assist with rounds, vaccinations, medications, and medical record-keeping under the Shelter Medicine Manager.

Responsibilities include foster support, scheduling follow-ups, and ensuring high-quality care in a historic, 501(c)3 organization. The role requires a calm multitasker with veterinary support experience, strong teamwork, and the ability to work a 9/80 schedule

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent; college courses and/or graduate in relevant field preferred.
• At least one year experience working in an animal shelter or veterinary clinic.
• Proven organizational skills and effective written and verbal communication.
• Ability to multi-task and thrive in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
• Ability to work both independently and as a team.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the health of the animals and identify health or behavioral issues promptly.
• Vaccinate animals and perform diagnostic tests under supervision.
• Medicate animals as prescribed by the staff veterinarian.
• Conduct intake for animals with serious medical conditions and assess foster animals.
• Assist in fostering coordination and medical rehabilitation as needed.
• Maintain accurate medical records for shelter animals in Shelter Buddy.
