Job summary

Churches United for the Homeless in Moorhead, MN seeks a Shelter Advocate Lead to support and lead shelter operations across all sites. The role emphasizes safety, client relations, and de-escalation training within a Housing First framework.

The position is full-time, evenings and alternate weekends. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication, teamwork, and critical thinking, with the ability to mentor staff and maintain accurate case notes.

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
• Demonstrated resourcefulness, good judgement and critical thinking.
• Ability to lead by example and value diverse thought.
• Sensitivity to homelessness, poverty, substance abuse, mental illness and criminal records.

Responsibilities

• No supervisory duties.
• Follow Supervisor plans for employees.
• Review the first 30 days training of new hire with direct supervisor; share strengths and growth areas.
• Train and mentor new hires at all shelters.
• Support On Call staff.
• Ensuring the safety of the Emergency Shelter and Community Center.
• Build professional relationships with clients.
• Model and train de-escalation skills.
• Follow Case Management plans for clients.
• Document case notes.
• Shelter Advocate duties.
