Job summary

Cornerstones, Inc. is seeking a Cook to work at the Embry Rucker Community Shelter (ERCS) in Reston, VA. The role involves preparing three meals and three snacks daily under the Kitchen Manager, while delivering services with integrity in line with the agency mission.

The Cook will handle food in a fast-paced kitchen, follow health codes, and coordinate with staff to ensure equitable meal delivery for adult households. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

• Must read and follow recipes unsupervised.
• Must communicate in English and Spanish.
• Patience with vulnerable populations including housing instability.
• Able to work in a fast-paced kitchen.
• Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Able to lift up to 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and cooks breakfast, lunch and dinner at ERCS.
• Stocks and maintains sufficient levels of food at line stations.
• Follows health department regulations while handling food.
• Serves food during mealtimes.
• Prepares snacks (morning, afternoon, evening).
• Cleans and maintains kitchen per health code.
• Reports shortages and equipment issues to Kitchen Manager.
• Assists as needed when Food Services Manager is not present.
• Acts as essential staff during inclement weather and emergencies.
