Qualifications

• Previous experience as a short order cook, line cook, or in a commercial kitchen preferred.
• Knowledge of basic cooking techniques and kitchen equipment.
• Understanding of food safety and sanitation standards (ServSafe certification preferred or ability to obtain).
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods.
• Experience in nonprofit, shelter, or community-based settings is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals to order, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner items, in a timely manner.
• Follow standardized recipes and portion guidelines to ensure consistency and nutritional compliance (including CACFP standards when applicable).
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen workspace in accordance with local health and safety regulations.
• Assist with food prep, including chopping, portioning, and storing ingredients.
• Monitor food inventory and communicate supply needs to supervisors.
• Ensure proper food storage, labeling, and rotation (FIFO practices).
• Accommodate dietary restrictions and special meal requirements as needed.
• Support meal service operations, including serving food and interacting respectfully with families.
• Assist with dishwashing and general kitchen cleanup duties.
• Work collaboratively with team members to ensure efficient kitchen operation.
