Job summary

City of Pasadena is seeking a Shelter Attendant to care for and manage welfare and housing of animals at the shelter. You will handle intake, vaccinations, feeding, cleaning, and daily records under minimal supervision.

The role includes humane handling and possible euthanasia assistance, with a schedule to follow and required licenses maintained. Preference is given to candidates who can identify dog/cat breeds and wildlife, and who understand animal care in a municipal shelter context.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Certification as Euthanasia Technician within one year of hire date.
• PREFERRED: Ability to identify dog and cat breeds and various types of wildlife, including birds.
• An understanding of and concern for all kinds of animals.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for general animal welfare and the proper confinement and disposition of animals in the Shelter.
• Perform intake functions including vaccinations and completing computer records.
• Prepare food and water for shelter animals and distribute accordingly.
• Clean and disinfect animals' quarters and observe for illnesses or injuries.
• Assist in or perform euthanasia of shelter animals when required.
• Work the assigned schedule and comply with City timekeeping and attendance policy.
• Must maintain all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements.

Education
