Job summary

City of Laredo seeks an Animal Care Attendant I to provide basic care and sanitation for animals at the shelter. You will feed, clean kennels, observe health, and report concerns to staff to support welfare and timely veterinary attention.

You must work in physically demanding conditions, follow shelter SOPs, and collaborate with a team to maintain a safe, healthy, and humane environment. A Texas driver license may be required for occasional city vehicle use.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in animal welfare handling preferred.

Responsibilities

• Clean and disinfect kennels and common areas thoroughly.
• Feed animals according to dietary requirements and monitor intake.
• Observe animals for signs of illness or distress and report concerns.
• Maintain feeding records and follow veterinary guidance.
• Handle animals safely using approved methods and PPE.
• Assist with adoptions and customer inquiries as needed.
