Job summary

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office is seeking an Animal Services Center Assistant to support daily operations, assist the public, and handle animal intake and data entry. Responsibilities include caring for animals, processing payments, and maintaining records, with weekend and shift variability.

Successful candidates will perform cleaning, provide enrichment, and may assist with euthanasia when necessary. A valid Florida driver’s license and pre-employment medical certification are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of three months of clerical or animal-related work experience.
• Valid Florida Class Driver’s License (must be maintained for duration of employment).
• Successful completion of the Sheriff’s Office pre-employment medical certification.

Responsibilities

• Escort customers through the care center; assist customers in completing standardized applications, forms and other related material required.
• Cleaning and disinfecting animal cages, animal runs, floor and hallways, reception area.
• Launders of bedding, toys, and supplies.
• Greet visitors, answer phones, and provide information to clients and resolves issues.
• Receive and examine incoming animal upon intake for behavior, diseases, injuries and adoptability.
• Assist clients in surrender of animal.
• Enter data and maintain records on animals.
• Record details of animal history, such as weight, food intake and license number.
• Process payments for services, including adoptions and licenses.
• Provide daily care for animals in the shelter including feeding and water.
• Observe shelter animals and report signs of illness or behavior problems.
• Calculate fees for shelter services including adoptions and licenses.
• Enter data into the animal tracking system.
• Provide animal enrichment such as walking dogs and playing with animals.
• May perform and assist with euthanasia of animals.
• Excellent customer services skills are required, including strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal tactfully with the public and explain laws and ordinances.
• Performs manual custodial and housekeeping tasks and preventative maintenance of equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
