Job summary

Family Service League is seeking a full-time Advocate for our homeless shelter in Huntington. The Advocate will conduct client assessments and assist clients in achieving self-sufficiency through advocacy, counseling, and resource referrals.

Based in Huntington, NY, this role requires a high school diploma (associate’s preferred), a valid NY driver’s license, and at least 1 year in human services. The schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, with a strong emphasis on ethical practice and

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Associate’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 1 year of experience in human services preferred.
Valid and clean New York State Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

Conduct intake for new clients upon arrival at the shelter.
Provide ongoing support and counseling for clients to reach their goals.
Maintain ethical behavior per the organization's Code of Ethics.
Establish and maintain positive working relationships to achieve organizational goals.
Collaborate with team to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions.
Influence others to achieve organizational objectives.
Assist with crisis intervention and conflict resolution when needed.
Conduct regular safety checks of unit/perimeter.
Report and document incidences accurately.
Transport clients in the Agency vehicle as needed.
Be available to work during inclement weather and emergencies.
