Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required or equivalent.
• 3G Welding certificate is required or preferred.
• Enrollment in the YESCO apprenticeship program or equivalent training is expected.

Responsibilities

• Review plans and diagrams to ensure accuracy of cutting materials.
• Plan and prepare materials to minimize waste.
• Cut materials per job specifications.
• Operate metal cutting equipment to cut materials to specs.
• Weld sign parts together using appropriate welding equipment.
• Maintain quality control and safety during material handling, cutting, and welding.
• Sand, grind, and polish cut materials; finish surfaces as required.
• Layout materials for skinning/covering sign structures.
• Bend and shape sign parts; use brakes as needed.
• Drill, rivet, screw, or glue sign parts.
• Perform pre-painting and wiring prep; label parts.
• Touch up paint and detail signs.
• Maintain preventive maintenance and minor repairs to sheet metal equipment.
• Assist and train sheet metal helpers and apprentices per YESCO standards.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general supervision, fabricates high quality sheet metal signs effectively and efficiently using cutting and welding equipment to cuts metals and other materials and welds them to create parts for sign assembly.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Reviews plans and diagrams to ensure accuracy of cutting of materials to create sign parts
• Plans, prepares and uses materials to be cut in a matter to keep waste to a minimum
• Cuts materials consistent with specifications of job order
• Operates metal cutting equipment to accurately cut materials to job specifications
• Operates welding equipment to weld sign parts together
• Implements and maintains quality control and safety during material handling, cutting, and welding
• Sands, grinds, polishes, and cleans cut materials
• Layout materials to be used for skinning/covering sign structure
• Bends and shapes sign parts by hand or by using brakes according to job specifications
• Drills, rivets, screws, or glues sign parts together
• Performs pre-painting and wiring preparation by cleaning and labeling of parts
• Touches up paint and performs detail of signs
• Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs to sheet metal department equipment
• Performs duties to ensure department meets expectations and deadlines
• Trains sheet metal helpers and apprentices according to YESCO apprenticeship requirements

MARGINAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Monitors parts and materials inventory
• Moves materials and cut parts around the YESCO facility
• Racks and pallets materials for shipping
• Keeps shop area clean and free from debris to maintain a safe working environment
• Perform(s) other functions as necessary or as assigned
