Job summary

Tradesmen International in Newport News, VA is immediately hiring experienced Sheet Metal Mechanics for first shift. The role involves installing ventilation foundations, bulkheads, shipboard furniture, and performing fabrication work.

Candidates should have at least 3 years' experience, be able to read blueprints, and pass background and drug tests. Pay is up to $32/hour plus $140 per diem for travelers 75+ miles from the jobsite.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as a sheet metal worker, first-class level preferred.
• Experience with ventilation systems, foundations, bulkheads, shipboard furniture.
• Ability to read blueprints, weld symbols, material types and datum lines.
• Ability to work with fractional/decimal measurements using a ruler.
• Experience using common shop equipment and hand tools.
• U.S. Citizen and able to pass background and hair follicle drug tests.

Job Scope

• Install foundations, ventilation systems, bulkheads, and shipboard furniture
• Perform sheet metal fabrication shop work
• Read and interpret complex ventilation assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches
• Lay out piece parts for fabrication and assembly
• Assemble piece parts according to specifications
• Use hand tools and shop equipment to complete assigned tasks
• Maintain quality workmanship while adhering to all safety standards

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a First-Class Sheet Metal Worker
• Experience with ventilation systems, foundations, bulkheads, shipboard furniture, and fabrication work
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, material types, datum lines, and reference lines
• Ability to work with fractional and decimal measurements using a ruler
• Ability to lay out and assemble fabrication components
• Experience working in a physically demanding environment
• Familiarity with OSHA regulations related to the shipbuilding industry
• Experience using electric drills, grinders, rivet guns, drill presses, press brakes, shears, and other shop equipment
• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check
• Must be able to pass a hair follicle drug test
