Job summary

City of Saint Paul is seeking a skilled sheet metal inspector to oversee residential and commercial inspections conducted by the Department of Safety and Inspections. The role requires on-site daily work across Saint Paul, with daytime hours and a standard Monday–Friday schedule.

Applicants must possess an apprenticeship certificate in sheet metal, a journey-level certification, and a valid Minnesota driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High School or Vocational Diploma and completion of a sheet metal apprenticeship certificate.
• Five years journey-level sheet metal experience.
• Certificate of Competency for warm air and ventilation worker.
• Valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and report on installations and alterations of sheet metal work to assure approved materials and proper workmanship.
• Order and enforce corrections on items that are not in compliance.
• Witness tests of mechanical installations, equipment, and materials.
• Interpret code to fit both typical and unusual situations.
