Qualifications

NOTE:

  • This position follows a Monday - Thursday schedule with hours of 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM; equivalent to four ten-hour shifts.
  • The full salary range for the Nurse Practitioner I position is $84,565.00 to $135,083.00 annually, dependent on qualifications and experience.
  • The full salary range for the Nurse Practitioner II position is $93,021.24 to $148,592.08 annually, dependent on qualifications and experience.
    • Additional Nurse Practitioner II Requirements:
      • Minimum1 year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner Prescriptive authority required
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

Nurse Practitioners (NPs) provide health care to patients at Arapahoe County’s Public Health Department (ACPHD) clinics, home visits, and community and mobile outreach events which includes identifying, managing, and referring health problems, promoting preventive health care, and disease prevention.

DUTIES:
  • Provides high-quality health care focused on disease prevention in patients seeking sexual and reproductive health care.
  • Provide services related to breast and cervical cancer screening, sexually transmitted infections, contraception and common gynecologic and urogenital presentations.
  • Conduct visits and physical exams utilizing patient-centered and trauma informed practices.
  • Prescribe medications and other therapies as indicated by patient presentation, lab testing and recommendations by entities such as Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, community partners and other healthcare professionals.
  • Consult with physician partner as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in Electronic Health Record.
  • Remain vigilant and up to date on changes in public health needs and best practices.

Community Outreach

  • As stipulated by grant deliverables, actively participates, and provides patient care and consultation via community outreach at indoor and outdoor clinics, events, and fairs.
  • Collaborates with community members, such as school personnel, childcare, and other healthcare providers to form partnerships and relationships that improve community health outcomes.

Clinic Operations

  • Participate in regular chart audits and case review.
  • Provides hands-on instruction to students, interns, medical residents, and new employees.
  • Exercises independent judgement and demonstrates the ability to seek supervision and consultation.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with other ACPHD employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community.
  • Act as a consulting provider for sexual health nurses and staff as well as other programs within Arapahoe County Public Health.
REQUIREMENTS:

  • Responds, as required, to support public health emergencies, incidents, and events. Employee participates in all exercises and drills on emergency preparedness and response, as required. Completes trainings identified as appropriate for this level employee and initiates corrective actions and responses pursuant to Federal, State, and Local laws, statutes, and regulations.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) from a school accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission or the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
  • A Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) from a school accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission or the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
  • Professional Qualifications: completion of a certified nurse practitioner program (RNP) or nurse midwife from an accredited school of nursing, and inclusion on the Colorado Advanced Practice Nurse Registry.
  • Actively licensed to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Colorado.
  • Inclusion on the Colorado Advanced Practice Nurse Registry
  • Active BLS and CPR certification.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered.

Pre-Employment Additional Requirements:

  • Must successfully pass pre-employment testing which includes an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) and background check.

Post-Employment Requirements:

  • Must stay up to date on any required training, certifications, and licensures.
  • Reliable transportation required for travel to call clinics and various worksites throughout the Metro Denver area on an as-needed basis.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work is primarily conducted in an office building, with travel to other locations or outside agencies to provide program services or attend meetings. Continuously works closely with co-workers and clients.

  • Requires constant physical mobility to prepare, sterilize, and clean clinic areas, assist patients in the reception and treatment areas, and to negotiate around equipment and chairs in the examination room.
