The Sexual Assault Forensic Examination Telehealth (SAFE-T) System , housed within Penn State's Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing,is seeking a full-time leadership role as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Clinical Coordinator.
About SAFE-T System
SAFE-T System is a successful telehealth sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) or "teleSANE" program aimed at increasing access to high-quality sexual assault forensic care through innovative telehealth technology. Our program delivers live expert SANE consultation to partnered hospitals. We're breaking down barriers to ensure survivors receive expert, compassionate care wherever they are.
The Opportunity
Join our mission-driven team as a Clinical Coordinator and help bring expert sexual assault forensic care to communities nationwide. This forensic nurse/SANE leadership position combines expertise in SANE/SAFE care with administrative and leadership duties.
As a Clinical Coordinator with SAFE-T, you will be responsible for leading and managing SAFE-T’s telehealth support model and participating in the multi-faceted SAFE-T Clinical telehealth program. You'll work alongside other clinical coordinators as part of a dynamic clinical operations team. Additionally, Clinical Coordinators also are hired as teleSANE team members and contribute to overall on-call teleSANE coverage.
What You'll Do
Clinical Leadership
Oversee a team of registered and advanced practice nurses who are also specialty trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs). These nurses comprise the SAFE-T teleSANE team who provide live quality assurance, mentorship, and peer review during forensic examinations via telehealth.
Recruit, hire, and train new teleSANEs
Develop SAFE-T policies and procedures
Develop training, PowerPoint presentations, and other programmatic materials; deliver trainings
Create a positive and supportive environment for SANEs
Help prepare SANEs at partnered sites for court testimony if subpoenaed
Program Development & Growth
Support collaborative team efforts such as grant applications, progress reporting, and data collection
Contribute to development of strategic initiatives aligned with SAFE-T’s mission to enhance quality, compassionate forensic medical care in underserved communities
Clinical Program Delivery & Administration
Attend partner hospital SANE team meetings
Oversee site success at assigned partner sites
Meet grant goals and deliverables as related to clinical services
Ensure seamless clinical service delivery and operation with clinical co-coordinators
Track project statuses, identify resource needs, and escalate concerns appropriately
Lead SAFE-T System implementation and launch at new partner sites
Lead bi-monthly SAFE-T Journal Club and Photo Review sessions
Lead in-person trainings held at Penn State’s University Park campus
Liaise with interdisciplinary partners in communities where SAFE-T is partnered to identify and respond to gaps in sexual assault care
Develop and nurture relationships with hospital partners and key stakeholders
Contribute to clinical goal setting, planning, delivery, and innovation
Support fiscal decisions and budget management activities
Ensure compliance with IT security, HIPAA, and Penn State policies and procedures
Quality Improvement & Innovation
Review literature and keep current with sexual assault nursing best practices and updates
Peer review case documentation for quality
Identify trends, measure performance, and recommend system improvements
Conduct after-action reviews, continuous quality improvement, and program evaluation
Support presentation development and conference participation
Contribute to research and evidence-based practice initiatives
Test new technologies, participate in technology improvement activities
TeleSANE Duties
Clinical Coordinators will also be hired into the role of SAFE-T teleSANE and serve as a member of the SAFE-T teleSANE team.As a teleSANE, Clinical Coordinators will be expected to partake in some evening and/or weekend call rotation each month. The number of teleSANE on-call hours worked will fluctuate based on number of teleSANEs on staff and number of new teleSANEs waiting to be signed off on call observation.
The Clinical Coordinator will co-share the role of On-call Clinical Supervisor with other coordinators. This will require responding to occasional pages from teleSANE team members after hours and on weekends to address emergent issues such as a shift call-off.
Travel is required, typically 4 to 8 times annually, with trips lasting 3 to 5 days on average.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree 8+ years of relevant experience, includes 3+ years of supervisory experience Required Certifications: Registered Nurse - Pennsylvania State Board of NursingCandidates must possess the Registered Nurse license prior to hire. Upon hire, candidates will be required to obtain active nursing licensure in all states where SAFE-T is partnered (currently Idaho and Pennsylvania). Compact nursing licensure may substitute for individual state licensure wherever states allow.
Additional Required Qualifications
Experience: 6+ years of sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) experience
Certification: IAFN SANE certification (SANE-A or SANE-P)
Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing; master’s preferred
Technology: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
