Job summary

Hunter Douglas is seeking a Sewing Machine Mechanic to perform setup, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance on industrial sewing machines. The role includes diagnosing issues, replacing parts, testing, and ensuring equipment safety in a high‑production environment.

The candidate should have a high school diploma, technical training, and OSHA certification, with 2 years’ related sewing experience and the ability to read manuals and use a tape measure.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with technical training and OSHA certification.
  • 2 years’ related experience in sewing and production machines.
  • Ability to read manuals and use measuring tools to service equipment.
  • Knowledge of fabrics and hand cutting of fabrics is helpful.
  • Ability to operate and maintain production equipment safely.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on industrial sewing machines.
  • Make unscheduled repairs during production and perform scheduled maintenance during servicing.
  • Read manuals to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Diagnose problems, replace parts, test and adjust equipment.
  • Use hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment.
  • Train sewing machine operators in proper setup and operation.
  • Comply with facility safety rules and OSHA regulations.
  • Report unsafe practices and maintain floor safety discipline.
  • Wear PPE and report defective equipment; read tape measures as needed.

Position Overview

The Sewing Machine Mechanic will be responsible for performing setup, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance on industrial sewing machines.

What you'll do
  • Perform setup, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance on industrial sewing machines.
  • Make unscheduled repairs on production equipment during production and perform scheduled maintenance during machine servicing.
  • Read and interpret manuals to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test, and adjust equipment.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of production equipment.
  • Assist in training sewing machine operators in the proper setup and operation of machines.
  • Comply with all facility safety rules and regulations.
  • Comply with OSHA safety and health rules.
  • Report any unsafe practices and/or conditions to your supervisor.
  • Maintain floor safety discipline by interceding with fellow employees who may engage in rule violations and/or unsafe, unhealthy activities.
  • Communicate to management those employees who persist in violations of safety rules and/or procedures.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment properly and report any defective PPE.
  • Report all near misses, accidents, injuries, or illnesses, including Muscular Skeletal symptoms or disorders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Able to use and read a tape measure
  • General knowledge of fabrics and hand cutting of fabrics
  • Ability to use production equipment and hand/power tools
  • Capable of standing for extended periods
  • Capable of lifting on a continuous basis
  • Regularly required to talk and hear
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching
  • Frequently lift and/or move objects over 35 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required (close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, and ability to focus)
  • Repeating motions involving wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Wear safety shoes (steel-toed)
  • Wear safety glasses that meet ANSI Z87.1+
  • Wear earmuffs with an NPR (noise reduction rating) of 30 dB
Who you are
  • High school graduate
  • Technical training
  • 2 years’ related experience in sewing and production machines
  • Minor plumbing, carpentry, and electrical knowledge are preferred
  • OSHA certified
  • Able to use and read a tape measure
  • General knowledge of fabrics and hand cutting of fabrics
  • Ability to use production equipment
  • Ability to use hand and power tools
  • Capable of standing for extended periods of time
  • Capable of lifting on a continuous basis
  • Strong attention to details
  • Follow written and verbal instructions
