Binsky Home Service seeks an experienced Residential Sewer & Underground Pipe Technician / Equipment Operator to join our sewer and underground services team. The role emphasizes ownership from initial excavation through restoration, with hands-on work in sewer lateral repair, pipe bursting, and water service replacement.

The ideal candidate has substantial experience in residential underground plumbing, can safely expose and repair piping, and operate excavation equipment in residential

Responsibilities

Job Overview

Binsky Home Service is seeking an experienced Residential Sewer & Underground Pipe Technician / Equipment Operator to join our growing sewer and underground services team.This is a hands-on residential service position focused on sewer lateral repair and replacement, trenchless pipe bursting, water service replacement, spot repairs, exterior excavation, and interior excavation and underground piping repairs. The ideal candidate has significant experience with residential underground plumbing and excavation and is comfortable taking ownership of a job from initial excavation and setup through pipe installation, testing, backfilling, cleanup, and restoration preparation.This isnot simply an equipment operator position. We are looking for someone who understands underground sewer and water systems, knows how to safely expose and repair piping, can operate excavation equipment in residential environments, and can work efficiently while protecting the customer's home and property.

Key Responsibilities
Residential Sewer Repair & Replacement
  • Perform residential sewer lateral repairs and complete sewer line replacements.
  • Excavate, expose, remove, repair, and replace damaged underground sewer piping.
  • Complete sewer spot repairs for collapsed, broken, offset, root-damaged, or deteriorated piping.
  • Install PVC and other approved sewer piping while maintaining proper pitch, alignment, bedding, and connections.
  • Make connections to existing residential sewer systems and municipal sewer laterals as required.
  • Verify proper operation, flow, and installation before backfilling.
Trenchless Pipe Bursting
  • Perform trenchless sewer replacements using pipe-bursting equipment and techniques.
  • Properly establish launch and receiving pits.
  • Set up and operate pipe-bursting equipment, pulling equipment, cables, rods, and related tooling.
  • Assist with determining whether a sewer replacement is appropriate for traditional excavation or trenchless pipe bursting.
  • Safely complete pipe-bursting replacements while minimizing disruption to landscaping, driveways, sidewalks, and customer property.
Water Service Repair & Replacement
  • Excavate and replace residential underground water service lines.
  • Perform water service spot repairs and full replacements.
  • Make proper connections at the home and utility/service connection.
  • Understand appropriate materials, sizing, burial depths, bedding, and installation requirements.
  • Pressure-test and verify completed water service installations before backfilling.
Interior Excavation & Underground Plumbing
  • Perform interior excavation work in basements, crawlspaces, garages, and other finished or unfinished areas.
  • Safely saw-cut and remove concrete slabs as required.
  • Excavate beneath slabs to expose underground sanitary piping.
  • Repair or replace underground sewer and drain piping inside residential structures.
  • Properly backfill and prepare excavated areas for concrete or other restoration.
  • Establish dust and debris containment and protect customer belongings and finished surfaces throughout the project.
Equipment Operation & Excavation
  • Safely operate equipment including:
    • Mini excavators
    • Backhoes
    • Skid steers
    • Trenchers
    • Concrete saws and jackhammers
    • Compaction equipment
    • Pipe-bursting equipment
    • Pumps and dewatering equipment
    • Pipe cutting and installation tools
  • Excavate around homes, foundations, utilities, landscaping, sidewalks, driveways, and other structures with precision.
  • Perform hand digging when working near marked or exposed utilities.
  • Properly bed installed piping and complete backfilling and compaction.
  • Maintain equipment and immediately report mechanical or safety concerns.
Underground Utility & Jobsite Safety
  • Review utility mark-outs before excavation begins.
  • Understand and work safely around existing gas, electric, water, sewer, communication, and other underground utilities.
  • Follow all applicable OSHA excavation and trench safety requirements.
  • Properly utilize trench protection, shoring, shielding, sloping, or other protective systems when required.
  • Maintain safe access and egress from excavations.
  • Establish appropriate barricades and maintain a safe work area around customers, pedestrians, vehicles, and crew members.
  • Immediately stop work and notify management when unexpected underground utilities or unsafe conditions are encountered.
Residential Property Protection
  • Protect lawns, landscaping, driveways, sidewalks, patios, finished floors, walls, and customer belongings.
  • Plan equipment access before beginning excavation.
  • Minimize unnecessary property disturbance whenever possible.
  • Maintain a clean and organized jobsite throughout the project.
  • Communicate with the homeowner regarding areas being accessed or excavated.
  • Leave the property clean, safe, and properly prepared for final restoration.
Troubleshooting & Field Decision-Making
  • Identify damaged, collapsed, offset, deteriorated, or improperly installed sewer and water piping.
  • Assist in determining the appropriate repair method based on field conditions.
  • Recognize conditions requiring spot repair versus full replacement.
  • Identify potential conflicts involving utilities, foundations, structures, groundwater, or site access.
  • Communicate unexpected field conditions to supervisors before proceeding.
  • Work with plumbing technicians, sewer camera technicians, supervisors, and other team members to complete projects efficiently.
Job Documentation
  • Accurately document work performed.
  • Take required before, during, and after photographs of excavation and installation.
  • Document pipe depth, location, materials, fittings, and repairs as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment, materials, and jobsite conditions.
  • Ensure required job documentation is completed before closing the project.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in residential sewer, underground plumbing, excavation, utility construction, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience installing and repairing underground sewer piping.
  • Experience operating mini excavators and other excavation equipment.
  • Understanding of proper pipe pitch, bedding, connections, backfilling, and compaction.
  • Ability to safely excavate around existing underground utilities.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in outdoor and indoor environments.
  • Ability to work independently while also effectively leading or working as part of a crew.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Strong commitment to safety, workmanship, and customer property protection.

  • Perform repetitive digging, lifting, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Safely operate excavation and construction equipment for extended periods.
