Job summary

Norwood is seeking a Sewer Craftsman with CDL and public works experience to operate heavy equipment and maintain the town sewer system. Applicants must perform skilled equipment operation and manual labor, work in confined spaces, and respond to emergencies in all weather.

The role requires a high school diploma and multiple years of relevant public works experience, with CDL and hydraulic licenses preferred. Union, non-exempt, 40 hours/week, with potential for extended hours during emergencies.

Qualifications

• High school graduation; three years of public works construction and maintenance experience including heavy equipment operation.
• Possession of a valid CDL; Hydraulic License desired; Tanker Endorsement CDL preferred.
• Thorough working knowledge of public works equipment operation.
• Working knowledge of sewer systems, sewer stations, equipment and materials; safety.
• Participation in the Town’s mandated drug and alcohol random testing program.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain sewer system equipment; excavate trenches and backfill.
• Work in confined spaces and respond to emergencies; may work extended hours.
• Operate in all weather with exposure to hazards and wastewater; noisy environments.
• Coordinate with other departments or private contractors.
• Assist with snow removal and maintenance tasks.
