Job summary

Columbus Consolidated Government is seeking an Equipment Operator to deliver materials, operate heavy machinery, and supervise inmate labor as part of stormwater system maintenance. The role includes daily equipment upkeep, safety inspections, and coordination with multiple crews.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent, a Georgia CDL, and 1–2 years of supervisory experience. Certification requirements may apply.

Qualifications

• Specialized training in the occupational field plus basic high school education.
• 1–2 years of supervisory experience, including inmate labor supervision.
• Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Georgia CDL for the vehicle type operated.
• Ability to pass a 3-day certification required by the Department of Corrections.

Responsibilities

• Operate dump trucks to deliver materials and remove debris from job sites.
• Train, supervise, and monitor the work of assigned personnel.
• Perform daily maintenance and safety inspections of assigned equipment; clean and secure trucks and equipment.
• Assist crews in identifying cave-in ownership and support other departments with vacuum and high-pressure water services.
• Maintain inventory of all supplies and equipment.
• Operate backhoes, tillers, dump trucks, box blades, and chainsaws.
• Participate in repair and maintenance activities, including cave-ins and storm sewer work.
• Complete required records and documentation.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
