Job summary

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of metal stamping setup experience, can read engineering drawings, and maintains rigorous safety and quality records. Occasional shift flexibility may be required.

Responsibilities

• Adjust shut height, stroke, speed, feed, alignment, and lubrication.
• Load coil stock, thread material, and operate coil-fed stamping systems.
• Produce first-piece samples with minimal adjustment and maintain production rates.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and dependable Setup Technician to support our precision metal stamping operations in Piscataway, New Jersey. Our manufacturing facility produces close-tolerance metal components for highly regulated medical device and aerospace applications.

The Setup Technician is responsible for preparing, installing, adjusting, troubleshooting, and operating stamping presses, tooling, and auxiliary equipment. This position ensures that each production job is set up safely and efficiently in accordance with approved work instructions, engineering drawings, quality requirements, and customer specifications.

The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience setting up progressive, compound, and secondary-operation dies; operating coil‑fed press equipment; performing dimensional inspections; and resolving production issues. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, accurate documentation, and a consistent commitment to safety and quality.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM) & Overtime Eligible

*Flexibility To Work 2nd Shift (3:30 PM - 12:00 AM) Is also Preferred*

First Key Responsibilities:

• Press and Tooling Setup
• Set up and operate mechanical, hydraulic, and other metal stamping presses in accordance with approved procedures.
• Install, align, secure, and remove progressive, compound, blanking, forming, piercing, and secondary-operation dies.
• Verify that tooling identification and revision levels match the applicable work order, setup sheet, and production documentation.
• Set and adjust shut height, stroke, press speed, feed length, material alignment, die-protection systems, lubrication, and other operating parameters.
• Load and thread coil stock or strip material through feeders, guides, and tooling.
• Operate and adjust coil-fed stamping systems and related material-feeding equipment.
• Complete safe, accurate, and repeatable press setups within established timeframes.
• Meet setup and changeover time expectations.
• Produce acceptable first-piece samples with minimal adjustment.
• Maintain required production rates while protecting product quality.
• Minimize scrap, rework, unplanned downtime, and preventable tooling damage.
• Complete all required production and quality records accurately.
• Follow approved procedures without bypassing safety or quality controls.
• Promptly communicate production, tooling, equipment, and quality concerns.
• Maintain an organized and professional work area while supporting continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma, GED, vocational education, or equivalent manufacturing experience.
• Five or more years of metal stamping setup experience.
• Experience with progressive, compound, and secondary-operation dies.
• Experience with coil-fed stamping operations and related material-feeding equipment.
• Experience working within ISO 9001, ISO 13485, AS9100, or similar regulated quality-management systems.

Work Environment:

This position involves working in a manufacturing environment that is adjacent to the shop work environment. The employee must be aware of potential hazards, including, but not limited to, working in close proximity to moving mechanical parts, operating vehicles, exposure to electrical current, high temperatures, and chemicals. It's important to maintain a high level of alertness and caution while performing tasks in this work environment.
