MATLOK Innovation is seeking a Cyber Vulnerability Test Specialist to provide Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) support to a Department of War (DoW) customer. This role requires an experienced offensive cybersecurity practitioner capable of planning and conducting hands‑on vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and adversary emulation against complex weapon and mission systems.

Working directly with government personnel and technical teams, you will examine system architectures, identify potential attack paths, and conduct authorized testing to determine how vulnerabilities could affect mission execution. You will apply red team techniques to challenge security assumptions, validate weaknesses, and assess the effectiveness of defensive controls. Testing may involve enterprise networks, industrial control systems, electronic buses, and embedded platforms.

Responsibilities include contributing to cybersecurity test plans, developing test approaches, executing assessments, and producing technically defensible findings. You will document reproducible results, distinguish demonstrated vulnerabilities from unverified concerns, and explain their operational significance. The work requires sound judgment and disciplined execution within established test objectives, scope, and rules of engagement.

We are looking for someone with demonstrated offensive testing capability, strong technical fundamentals, and the ability to investigate unfamiliar technologies with minimal direction. You should be comfortable adapting tools and techniques, developing scripts or utilities, and working through problems that do not have established procedures. Success in this role depends on technical depth, curiosity, clear communication, and the ability to turn testing results into useful customer decisions.

About MATLOK: MATLOK Innovation delivers high-trust technical expertise in direct support of national defense missions. We serve as a trusted Force Multiplier for defense missions by delivering tailored teams and digital solutions that amplify operational impact, accelerate readiness, and maximize the effectiveness of every mission resource. We are committed to delivering the right solution for the customer, and we are building the team that will turn that commitment into sustained mission success.

Requirements
  • Substantial relevant professional experience, or a combination of relevant experience and education in cybersecurity, computer science, engineering, information technology, or a related technical field.
  • Demonstrated hands‑on experience conducting penetration testing, red team operations, or adversary emulation through professional assignments and technical accomplishments.
  • Ability to independently identify, validate, and exploit vulnerabilities within authorized test environments, including combining weaknesses into realistic attack paths.
  • Strong understanding of networking, operating systems, authentication and authorization mechanisms, and common security controls.
  • Experience using offensive security tools and developing or adapting scripts to support testing and technical investigation.
  • Ability to assess unfamiliar systems, select appropriate testing methods, and distinguish tool‑generated findings from demonstrated vulnerabilities.
  • Ability to document reproducible technical findings and explain their implications for mission execution and operational risk.
  • Ability to work independently, collaborate with government personnel and technical teams, and conduct testing within established scope and rules of engagement.
  • Must currently hold, or be able to obtain within six (6) months of hire, a DoD 8140 (formerly 8570) IAT II or IAM II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, SSCP, CAP, CASP+ CE).
  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
Desired Skills
  • Experience assessing weapon systems, embedded platforms, industrial control systems, or other mission‑critical hardware and software.
  • Experience with vulnerability research, reverse engineering, protocol analysis, or exploit development.
  • Experience assessing Windows and Linux environments, enterprise identity systems, network services, or applications.
  • Experience conducting adversary emulation and evaluating defensive detection and response capabilities.
  • Experience developing cybersecurity test plans, defining test objectives, and assessing results against mission requirements.
  • Experience supporting DoW test and evaluation organizations or working in operational or acquisition test environments.
  • Relevant practical offensive security certifications, such as OSCP, or comparable evidence of advanced technical proficiency.
  • Experience presenting technical findings and recommendations directly to government customers.

Candidates are not expected to have experience in every area listed above. Demonstrated offensive testing capability and the ability to apply that expertise to unfamiliar mission systems are highly valued.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation for this role is competitive and structured to reflect technical seniority, mission impact, and individual performance. In addition to base salary, bonus opportunities are aligned with customer performance, company growth, and measurable contribution.

MATLOK Innovation provides comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage, a competitive retirement plan, and generous paid time off. We support continued professional development through advanced training, industry certifications, and relevant technical conferences.
