MATLOK Innovation is seeking a Systems Engineer to provide Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) support to a Department of War (DoW) customer. This role offers the opportunity to solve challenging technical problems and help develop realistic, technically sound environments for cybersecurity testing, training, and experimentation.

Working directly with government personnel and technical teams, you will translate customer objectives into requirements, system architectures, and practical technical solutions. You will help define and evaluate test environments, assess interfaces and dependencies, identify integration challenges, and ensure proposed solutions support the intended mission. The work requires understanding how hardware, software, networks, and operational processes interact—and how those interactions affect the validity and usefulness of test results.

Responsibilities include reviewing technical requirements and designs, supporting integration and troubleshooting, evaluating technical tradeoffs, and developing clear documentation and recommendations. You will help teams resolve gaps and inconsistencies across complex systems and communicate technical findings in terms that support informed customer decisions.

We are looking for someone with strong technical fundamentals, sound engineering judgment, and the initiative to work through unfamiliar problems. Experience with cybersecurity, complex networks, virtualization, embedded systems, automation, or test and evaluation is valuable. Equally important are curiosity, the ability to learn new technologies quickly, and a demonstrated record of turning complex technical challenges into workable solutions.

About MATLOK: MATLOK Innovation delivers high-trust technical expertise in direct support of national defense missions. We serve as a trusted Force Multiplier for defense missions by delivering tailored teams and digital solutions that amplify operational impact, accelerate readiness, and maximize the effectiveness of every mission resource. We are committed to delivering the right solution for the customer, and we are building the team that will turn that commitment into sustained mission success.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant technical experience.
  • Demonstrated experience applying systems engineering principles to complex technical systems, including requirements analysis, architecture development, interface definition, integration, and verification.
  • Ability to translate customer objectives into clear technical requirements and evaluate whether proposed solutions meet those requirements.
  • Practical experience integrating or troubleshooting systems involving hardware, software, and networks.
  • Ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs, identify risks and dependencies, and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills, including the ability to explain complex issues to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently, collaborate across technical disciplines, and quickly learn unfamiliar technologies.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
Desired Skills
  • Experience supporting cybersecurity testing, training, or experimentation.
  • Knowledge of enterprise networks, virtualization, cloud environments, or distributed computing systems.
  • Experience integrating mission systems, embedded platforms, industrial control systems, or other complex hardware and software environments.
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE), SysML, or tools for managing requirements, architectures, and interface documentation.
  • Experience using scripting or automation to support integration, testing, troubleshooting, or data analysis.
  • Experience developing test plans, defining verification criteria, and evaluating results against technical requirements.
  • Experience providing technical advice to government customers or working in a SETA role.
  • Ability to connect system behavior and technical findings to mission objectives and operational impact.

Candidates are not expected to have experience in every area listed above. Demonstrated technical depth in relevant areas and the ability to learn across disciplines are highly valued.
