POSITION SUMMARY:

The Set-up Technician prepares processes for injection molding machines and sets up other equipment for assembly. This person must have a thorough knowledge of the plastic molding process to be able to maintain or adjust equipment to ensure production specifications. They oversee the production activities as the Shift Supervisor. The Set-up Technician must have good problem-solving skills and works closely with the material handlers, quality assurance and operators.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsibilities include diagnosing small engine problems, maintaining shop area cleanliness, and collecting and disposing of trash.
  • Clearly explain (if called upon) to the customer’s satisfaction the diagnosis and repair of the machine in question.
  • Continually seek both technical and product training when available.
  • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness, improve and promote quality, and monitor own work to ensure quality.
  • Observe all safety and security procedures, report potentially unsafe conditions, and use equipment and materials properly.
  • Treat management and other employees with respect and contribute to building a positive team spirit.
  • Follow instructions and promptly respond to management direction.
  • Work with integrity, always upholding company values.
  • Mold set-up
  • Troubleshoot, process adjustments. Document adjustment and results
  • Assist with operator breaks when needed
  • Operate machine when needed and available
  • Clean hoppers, loaders, and filters when required
  • Place purging in purge buckets daily
  • Vacuum machine beds daily
  • Clean up oil spills or leaks
  • Assist with preventative maintenance on tools.
  • Train operators and make sure they are comfortable in their duties before leaving the machine
  • Thoroughly wipe down and clean machines, weekly
  • Organize molding supply cabinets
  • Backup supervisors during absences
  • Utilize six-sigma quality tools, when appropriate, to define, measure, analyze, improve and control processes and outcomes.
  • Responsible to maintain & support processes, procedures & K.P.I.’s owned by your position.
  • Review of all procedures related to your job per “HR LG 01 Training Matrix”
  • Completion within time stated of all training required by Job Description in “HR LG 01 Training Matrix”
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Regular and punctual attendance.
  • Follow all Company policies and procedures.

Requirements

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 18 years old
  • 3-4 years of knowledge in plastic and/or molding processes
  • 2 years of set-up experience in plastic or molding process
  • 1 year of managing a team
  • Knowledge of mold construction and components
  • Knowledge of properties of common injection moldable resins

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The performance of this position will require exposure to the manufacturing areas where all areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toe shoes, and other mandatory safety equipment.
  • For the most part, ambient temperatures with typical plant lighting and manufacturing equipment are present throughout the facility.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sit or stand as needed.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs. independently
  • Walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods throughout the day.
  • Reaching above shoulder height, below the waist, or lifting as required to reach documents or store materials throughout the workday.
  • Proper lifting techniques required.
  • Ability and comfortability to work in small confine spaces while following proper safety protocol.
  • Ability to accomplish the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
