Job summary

Magna International (Cosma Group) is seeking a Laser/CNC technician to ensure quality and conformance of products per control plans. Responsibilities include setting up laser tooling, programming CNCs, troubleshooting equipment, and performing TPM tasks.

The role requires 2–4 years of experience, SPC knowledge, and forklift operation. Shift-specific duties and safety compliance are part of the daily routine. Join a team supporting continuous improvement and quality assurance.

Qualifications

• Laser machine operation and CNC setup experience.
• 2–4 years' experience in related manufacturing.
• SPC experience and knowledge of standard G-code.
• Thorough understanding of three-dimensional CNC machining.
• Fork truck license.

Responsibilities

• Set up laser tooling and fixtures to meet production schedules for First Off quality.
• Load CNC programs and align fixtures to ensure efficient machine setup.
• Troubleshoot laser equipment to maintain quality and machine rate.
• Document standardized laser changeover activities and cell layouts.
• Perform basic tool, fixture, and equipment repairs with maintenance support.
• Carry out TPM tasks per the TPM schedule.
• Follow work instructions and perform 100% visual inspections and quality checks.
• Maintain housekeeping and 5S practices.

Job Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for quality & conformance of product to customer specifications per control plans utilizing IATF16949 documented systems; authority to stop non-conforming processes and report same to Supervisor, Quality Assurance and/or Engineering representative

• Orchestrate timely & efficient set-up of Laser tooling and fixtures as required by production schedules to attain a quality First Off product and attain machine rates
• Set-up of holding tooling, fixtures, & sensors in the Laser cutting machine; mount and align fixture(s) & load CNC programs in a neatly organized, safe, & timely manner
• Troubleshoot & operate Laser equipment to attain and maintain a quality product at an acceptable machine rate while minimizing machine downtime
• Create and document standardized Laser changeover team activities including Operator and Material Handler duties & work cell layouts which minimize downtime
• Perform basic tool, fixture, and equipment repairs as required during setup activities with support from Maintenance Technicians and Laser Engineering team
• Perform Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) tasks as required per the TPM schedule developed by the Laser Maintenance & Engineering team
• Seek out and document Continuous Improvement suggestions which improve changeover efficiency, maximize machine uptime, and/or improve safety and/or quality
• Follow written work instructions and quality inspections including 100% visual inspection, packaging, tagging and product labeling per the customer’s specifications
• Housekeeping, 5S duties, and other activities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Laser machine operation and CNC programming & set-up
• 2-4 years' experience required
• Prior Stamping or Assembly experience helpful but not required
• Statistical Process Control (SPC) experience
• Knowledge & thorough understanding of standard "G code" programming
• Knowledge & solid understanding of three-dimensional CNC machining
• Fork truck license

SKILLS

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, setup and operating instructions and basic repair & maintenance documents
• Ability to create & follow written set-up instructions and apply common-sense understanding of same
• Ability to problem-solve and think in three dimensions (spatial reasoning)
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and/or employees
• Ability to anticipate think ahead of actionsKnowledge of intermediate mathematical equations
• Ability to work overtime as needed

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Ability to move throughout the plant
• Extended sitting and standing; reaching and bending
• Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. may be required
• Loud work environment; compliance with personal protective equipment as required
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision
• 100% visual inspection of finished goods and completed components
• Good hand-eye coordination; gross & fine motor use skills required
