Job summary

Cirrus Aircraft is seeking a Setup Machinist to prepare and operate CNC machines, load materials and programs, and verify dimensions against drawings. You will read engineering blueprints, adjust tooling, and ensure high-quality parts through precise machining and thorough inspections.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2 year degree from a Machinist vocational program required and 2-4 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to manage stress with competing demands and multiple projects.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read drawings and GD&T.

Responsibilities

  • Determine if programs need updates to meet conditions and provide feedback to team.

  • Check and maintain machine fluids and monitor equipment for maintenance needs.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications to guide activities and ensure quality.
  • Inspect work and document deviations from drawings.

Job description

Overview

Setup Machinists prepare and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments out of metal. Setup Machinists will load materials, tools, and programs into CNC machine equipment to prepare for production. Responsible for measuring dimensions of first-part completed to verify conformance to specifications. Reads and interprets blueprints and design sketches to determine the precise specifications, dimensions, and tolerance levels of the finished product. Applies knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures to produce high-quality parts. A Setup Machinist works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function and has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.

Responsibilities
  • Set-up and opertes CNC machines (mills, lathes, etc.) to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate production.
  • Load material during operation and change or adjust cutting tools and offsets when required
  • Determine if programs need to be updated or modified to meet current conditions and provide feedback to appropriate team members
  • Deburr product to drawing requirements using hand and power tools with high precision
  • Check and fill machine fluid levels, manages chips and monitors equipment for maintenance requirements
  • Read, undersstand and interpret engineering drawings and specificiations to guide activities and ensure quality
  • Understand inspections of work completed, perform inspections and document deviations from engineering drawing
  • Follow verbal, written, and electronic work instruction to complete tasks
  • Keep daily production records and record pertinent manufacturing data where required
  • Learn, practice and follow all safety standards and policies and ensure a safe operating environment, including use of appropriate protective equipment and identification of ptoential safety concerns
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment
Qualifications

  • Ability to read drawings and technical specifications including global dimensioning and tolerancing (GD+T)
  • Experience with a variety of CNC machines (mills, lathes, etc.)
  • Knowledge of different materials and cutting tools
  • Demonstrated proficiency on basic machine set-up and operations

Pay Range

Salary Range: USD $23.55/Hr. - USD $35.32/Hr.
