Job summary

Qualifications

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects.

  • Read and interpret drawings and specs to guide production.
  • Perform inspections and document deviations from drawings.
  • Follow all work instructions and record production data.

Job description

Overview

Setup Machinists prepare and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments out of metal. They load materials, tools, and programs into CNC machine equipment to prepare for production and measure first‑part dimensions to verify conformance to specifications. They read and interpret blueprints and design sketches to determine precise specifications, dimensions, and tolerance levels. Using knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures, they produce high‑quality parts and work independently within established procedures relevant to the job function, gaining proficiency in multiple competencies.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate CNC machines (mills, lathes, etc.) to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate production.
  • Load material during operation and change or adjust cutting tools and offsets when required.
  • Determine if programs need updating or modification to meet current conditions and provide feedback to team members.
  • Deburr product to drawing requirements using hand and power tools with high precision.
  • Check fluid levels, manage chips, and monitor equipment for maintenance requirements.
  • Read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications to guide activities and ensure quality.
  • Perform inspections and document any deviations from the engineering drawing.
  • Follow verbal, written, and electronic work instructions to complete tasks.
  • Keep daily production records and record pertinent manufacturing data where required.
  • Learn, practice, and follow all safety standards and policies to maintain a safe operating environment, using appropriate protective equipment and identifying potential safety concerns.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two‑year degree from a machinist vocational program and 2–4 years of relevant experience required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage stress, including competing work demands and multiple projects at the same time.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to read drawings and technical specifications, including GD+T.
  • Experience with a variety of CNC machines (mills, lathes, etc.).
  • Knowledge of different materials and cutting tools.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic machine set‑up and operations.

Pay Range

Salary Range: USD $23.55 /Hr. – USD $35.32 /Hr.
