Job summary

Ingersoll Rand’s Field Service Technician role in the Compression Systems and Services Division serves customers by installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining air compressors and related components across multiple locations in the US.

The position requires 2+ years of mechanical systems experience, a valid driver's license, on-call availability, and the ability to lift and manipulate heavy equipment. Training and travel within the service area are expected.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience troubleshooting industrial/commercial mechanical systems.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean record for at least 12 months.
  • On-call availability (not during first 90 days).
  • Physical ability to perform manual tasks and lift weight per safety policy.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on compressed-air equipment.
  • Interact with customers to address equipment concerns.
  • Collaborate with the Service Coordinator to order parts and supplies for installations and repairs.
  • Assist, train, and mentor apprentices and other field service technicians.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing with customers and coworkers.
  • Provide technical assistance on pre-commissioning, start-ups, installations, and repairs of compressed-air systems, with limited guidance from the Master Technician.
  • Promote Ingersoll Rand products, services, and solutions to increase customer awareness.

Buffalo, NY; Elmhurst, IL; Livonia, MI; Indianapolis, IN; Hamilton, OH; Erie, PA; Ithica, NY; Buffalo, NY. Additional locations well outside the primary centers may also be required. This role is typically not eligible for relocation.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Pay

$25.00 – $35.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Full‑time, hourly.

Job Overview

The Field Service Technician in our Compression Systems and Services Division serves customers by installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining all makes of rotary screw and reciprocating, as well as Centac and ECC air compressors and related components. Precise measurement tools are used for diagnostic troubleshooting, and the technician must be familiar with all operations and parts manuals for each piece of equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance on Ingersoll Rand compressed‑air equipment.
  • Interact with customers to address existing and unanticipated equipment concerns.
  • Collaborate with the Service Coordinator to order and gather parts and supplies needed for installations and repairs.
  • Assist, train, and mentor apprentices and other field service technicians.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing with customers and coworkers.
  • Provide technical assistance on equipment pre‑commissioning, start‑ups, installations, and repairs of compressed‑air systems, acting with limited guidance from the Master Technician.
  • Promote Ingersoll Rand products, services, and solutions such as Preventive Maintenance, Diagnostics, Audits, and Leak Detection to increase customer awareness.
Requirements
  • 2+ years of experience troubleshooting industrial/commercial mechanical systems.
  • Valid driver’s license for at least 12 months with a clean record (no major or frequent traffic violations such as DUI in the last 5 years, hit‑and‑run, license suspension, reckless driving, or multiple minor infractions in the last 3 years).
  • On‑call availability (not during first 90 days); on‑call weeks may occur every 4 weeks or more frequently as determined by the hiring manager.
  • Physical ability to perform regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, kneeling, and lifting/manipulating weight limits per safety policy.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Core Competencies
  • Read wiring schematics and diagrams for all equipment.
  • Advanced network system installations (IMMC/ASC, X Series Automation).
  • Basic vibration troubleshooting.
  • Basic air‑quality system maintenance (compressor/dryer, air treatment).
  • Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office and other basic computer usage; proficiency with handheld computers (smartphone, iPad) and network basics.
  • Maintain proper business‑travel practices in a cost‑efficient manner.
Preferences
  • Industrial air compressor maintenance and knowledge.
  • EPA certification.
  • Veteran or active‑duty military status encouraged.
Travel & Work Arrangements
  • Travel daily within a 3‑hour radius of the service area.
  • A company vehicle and fuel card provided.
Pay Range

Starting pay $25.00 – $35.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
