Service Technician - Master role at Hussmann

Responsibilities

• Perform prescribed routing maintenance procedures on supermarket refrigeration systems and self‑contained temperature‑controlled merchandisers.
• Partner with other technicians for start‑up of new refrigeration equipment.
• Resolve customer warranty issues rapidly and accurately, understanding how efficiencies affect profitability.
• Serve as a mentor to other technicians; teach classes on HVAC/R processes, diagnostics, parts, etc.
• Match customer needs with potential sales opportunities; assist service management with estimates.
• Complete required documents (work tickets, timesheets) and electronic communications accurately and timely.
• Manage truck inventory, order, bill out, and maintain parts responsibly; keep vehicle clean and maintain schedule.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of advanced electrical & mechanical repairs, HVAC maintenance, EMS programming, operation, and troubleshooting, advanced wiring and schematic diagrams.
• Troubleshoot and repair equipment on complex service calls.
• Understand compressor parameters, oil differential pressure valves, oil level controls, low/high pressure oil systems, split condensing, low ambient controls, refrigerated equipment startup, EMS controls, CO2 refrigeration, new retail store refrigeration startup, air flow testing, motor VFDs, and advanced wiring diagrams.
• Perform system refrigerant and oil conversions.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Formal Education Requirement: High School Diploma/GED

Preferred level: HVAC‑R Technical School Degree

Minimum Years Of Experience Necessary

• External Candidates: 10 years in the field or 7 years with Certification from a Technical School
• Internal Candidates: 7 years of experience with OJT & Skills Assessment

Additional Information

• Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record per Fleet Policy.
• Physically able to walk distances, bench and crouch, climb ladders, work at high elevations, and lift/carry objects up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; detail‑oriented and highly motivated.
• Strong mechanical aptitude; knowledge of basic maintenance tasks and hand tools.
• Ability to work nights and/or weekends as required.
• Knowledge of basic or commercial refrigeration and HVAC preferred.
• Strong leadership and business acumen.
• EPA 608 Universal Certification.
• Superior decision‑making and paperwork skills.
• Capable of teaching all previously listed items.
