About the Job

A Service Technician Diesel I is responsible for performing basic maintenance and service on diesel engines and related components. This role may involve diagnosing issues, conducting inspections, servicing equipment, and completing necessary repairs. Technicians typically work in construction sites or shops. Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are important qualities for individuals in this role.

What You’ll Do
  • Basic understanding of service intervals.
  • Locate fluid types, capacities, and special instructions in the manufacturer’s digital service manual.
  • Service, grease, and lube all mobile equipment.
  • Inspect all mobile equipment to identify and troubleshoot the cause of errors.
  • Perform repairs to address problems when necessary.
  • Handle, install, position, and move parts, materials, and industrial hand tools in a safe manner throughout the shop and plant.
  • Ensure correct and accurate documentation is completed daily and monthly regarding all mobile equipment.
  • Enter and maintain service reports for all mobile equipment in written or electronic form.
  • Perform physical activities that require moving your whole body and considerable use of your arms and legs, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
Other Requirements
  • Ability to work overtime and extended hours including weekends depending on customer and company demands.
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions and tolerate exposure to loud noises.
  • Must have knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.
  • Be a subject matter expert and apply knowledge and experience in situations.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

Skills You’ll Need:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Previous experience working on diesel or heavy construction equipment is preferred; additional vocational or trade school training in a mechanical field is also preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of general principles and practices of servicing heavy construction equipment is preferred.
    • Willingness to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.
    • Ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
    • Some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.
    • In accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards, take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times.
