Job description

$34/hr. to $45/hr. depending on experience

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Service Technician diagnoses and completes repairs on customer vehicles in a professional, timely manner while ensuring quality repairs at a fair cost to the customer.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

The Service Technician reports directly to the Service management team and will communicate with all relevant co-workers regarding daily duties as they relate to the accomplishment of directives, objectives, and timely completion of open repair orders.

The Service Technician will work closely with co-workers to coordinate various aspects of customer service requirements.

The Service Technician will also collaborate with other technicians and co-workers on repair strategies and estimates to provide excellent customer service.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Daily planning with the service team to establish repair strategies based on job priorities.
  2. Determine work required from the repair order.
  3. Diagnose vehicle issues to verify customer complaints and plan repair strategies.
  4. Complete repairs efficiently within the time allowed.
  5. Perform quality repairs minimizing shop comebacks and unnecessary expenses.
  6. Submit a complete and accurate write-up for each repair performed.
  7. Road test vehicles to verify satisfactory repairs (if you possess a CDL).
  8. Manual and computerized time posting on an ongoing basis.
  9. Confirm that all cores are returned to parts and that warranty parts are properly tagged and stored.
  10. Coordinate with the rear parts counter as needed for parts required for repairs.
  11. Maintain a clean shop environment by disposing of trash, returning tools, and storing equipment properly.
  12. Ensure the readiness and proper working condition of shop tools, making adjustments and minor repairs as needed.
  13. Assist the service team with preparing accurate repair estimates when required.
  14. Update the Service Manager on current repairs in process regularly.
  15. Work safely, ensuring no harm comes to yourself, customers, fellow employees, or vehicles.
  16. Provide and maintain a full set of hand tools and air tools.
  17. Leave the customer’s vehicle in the same or cleaner condition than when repairs began, using seat covers and floor mats.
  18. Be punctual at the start of shifts and when returning from breaks.
  19. Do not exceed two hours on diagnosis without approval from the Service Manager.
  20. Bring any additional repairs immediately to the attention of the service team.
  21. Always wear safety glasses on the shop floor.
  22. Understand and follow federal, state, and local regulations regarding hazardous waste disposal, OSHA, MSDA, right-to-know, etc.
  23. Conduct oneself professionally, reflecting the importance of customers to our business.
  24. Prioritize company, customer, and safety in all daily activities.

Job Requirements:

  • HS Diploma
  • 2+ years working in a heavy-duty truck service shop
  • Certifications are a plus
  • Proficient with laptop computers and email; basic user of Microsoft Office applications
