Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Service Technician diagnoses and completes repairs on customer vehicles in a professional, timely manner while ensuring quality repairs at a fair cost to the customer.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

The Service Technician reports directly to the Service management team. The Service Technician will communicate with all relevant co-workers regarding the daily course of duties related to directives, objectives, and timely completion of open repair orders.

The Service Technician will work closely with co-workers to coordinate customer service requirements, repair strategies, and estimates to provide excellent service.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Daily planning with the service team to establish repair strategies based on job priorities.
2. Determine work required from the repair order.
3. Diagnose vehicle issues to verify customer complaints and plan repairs.
4. Complete repairs efficiently within the allocated time.
5. Perform quality repairs to minimize shop comebacks and expenses.
6. Submit complete and accurate repair write-ups.
7. Road test vehicles to verify repairs (if CDL is possessed).
8. Post time manually and via computer on an ongoing basis.
9. Ensure cores are returned to parts and warranty parts are tagged and stored properly.
10. Coordinate with the parts counter for needed parts.
11. Maintain a clean shop environment, including trash disposal, tool storage, and cord management.
12. Maintain and repair shop tools; notify the Service Manager of needed repairs.
13. Assist with preparing accurate repair estimates.
14. Update the Service Manager regularly on current repairs.
15. Work safely, avoiding hazards to self, customers, staff, and vehicles.
16. Provide and maintain a full set of hand and air tools.
17. Leave vehicles in a clean condition, using seat covers and mats.
18. Be punctual at shift start, lunch, and breaks.
19. Limit diagnosis to two hours without approval.
20. Report additional repairs immediately.
21. Always wear safety glasses on the shop floor.
22. Follow regulations on hazardous waste disposal, OSHA, MSDS, etc.
23. Conduct oneself professionally, emphasizing customer importance.
24. Prioritize company, customer, and safety in daily activities.
