The Leo M. Ellebracht Company (LME) seeks a skilled Service Technician / Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) to perform warranty repairs, maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and system repairs on fire apparatus and emergency vehicles.

Primary focus on manufacturer warranty repairs in accordance with guidelines to ensure coverage remains valid. The technician will work mainly at the LME service facility in the St.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
  • 2-4 years of experience in diesel, heavy truck, emergency vehicle, fire apparatus, or industrial equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of electrical (12V/24V), hydraulic, mechanical, braking, and chassis systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, technical manuals, schematics, and manufacturer service documentation.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing complex vehicle systems.
  • Fabrication or welding experience; MIG/TIG experience preferred.
  • Experience with fire apparatus, municipal fleets, or emergency vehicles strongly preferred.
  • Experience performing manufacturer warranty repairs is highly preferred.
  • EVT certification is strongly preferred, or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to LME customer locations for service and repairs.
  • Ability and willingness to respond to occasional emergency call-outs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must provide and maintain a basic set of personal hand tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and complete warranty repairs on fire apparatus in strict accordance with manufacturer warranty guidelines, specifications, and procedures.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, braking, chassis, and other vehicle systems.
  • Perform repairs and component replacements while maintaining compliance with manufacturer requirements and warranty eligibility.
  • Travel to other LME customers throughout St. Louis area as needed to perform warranty repairs, troubleshooting, and service.
  • Inspect and test repaired systems to verify proper operation and reliability.
  • Perform fire apparatus inspections, system testing, and other service work as required.
  • Install, repair, and integrate emergency vehicle equipment such as lighting, sirens, radios, inverters, generators, and related systems.
  • Support vehicle upfitting and system integration projects when needed.
  • Fabricate and install custom components such as brackets, mounts, shelving, and storage systems.
  • Perform light welding and fabrication, including MIG/TIG welding as applicable.
  • Assist with diagnostics and repairs involving diesel and heavy-duty vehicle systems as needed.
  • Accurately document repairs, parts used, diagnostic findings, warranty work, and service notes.
  • Follow manufacturer procedures, applicable NFPA standards, DOT and OSHA requirements, and LME safety practices.

Join Our Team

We're seeking a skilled and dependable Service Technician / Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) to perform warranty repairs, maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and system repairs on fire apparatus and emergency rescue vehicles. This role primarily focuses on completing manufacturer warranty repairs in strict accordance with warranty guidelines, specifications, and procedures to ensure repairs are properly performed, documented, and remain eligible for warranty coverage.

The technician will work primarily out of the LME service facility at the St. Louis Fire Protection District warehouse (Central Garage in Downtown St. Louis) with travel to other LME customers throughout the St. Louis area as needed to diagnose and complete repairs. This is a hands-on position supporting fire departments and first responders by keeping emergency apparatus safe, reliable, and ready for service.

Day-to-day responsibilities may include:

  • Perform and complete warranty repairs on fire apparatus in strict accordance with manufacturer warranty guidelines, specifications, and procedures.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, braking, chassis, and other vehicle systems.
