The Service Technician is responsible for system and component installations, repairs, troubleshooting, maintenance, and retrofits to customers’ equipment or machinery. In this position, you will serve our customers directly on location or in the shop. You will work with our Internal Service Dispatchers and Coordinators to provide the best customer experience. It is important that this person can learn and retain product-specific information relevant to this role. Since SWS is a refuse company, candidates must be prepared to work on refuse equipment, including stationary equipment like balers and compactors, and mobile equipment such as trash trucks, septic trucks, street sweepers, and other related machinery. On-the-job training and formal week-long training courses will be provided; work under the supervision of a lead technician.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure health & safety is the top priority by adhering to all policies, processes, and safety protocols
  • Read and follow engineering (hydraulic & electrical) schematic drawings and technical specifications
  • Prepare new equipment for delivery to customers
  • Provide customer guidance for improvement
  • Assemble, test, and service systems and components
  • Travel to job sites as needed (up to 25% travel)
  • Manage workflow to meet customer deadlines
  • Complete paperwork for billing, reports, and documentation
  • Work in environmental conditions including extreme heat and cold
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Journeyman-level experience is highly preferred
  • Strong mechanical repair skills with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency with technology and technical systems
  • Proactive problem-solving approach
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently
  • Experience with welding processes and techniques
  • Familiarity with electrical and hydraulic schematics
  • Possession of a comprehensive set of hand tools
  • Experience with refuse trucks is preferred
  • CDL Class A or B certification is strongly preferred
  • Mechanical certifications are desirable but not mandatory

The physical demands include occasionally lifting/moving up to 50 pounds, standing for long periods, walking, using hands, balancing, bending, reaching, climbing ladders, sitting, stooping, kneeling, squatting, crouching, crawling, and specific vision abilities.
