Qualifications

  • Experience repairing diesel and heavy-duty trucks or commercial vehicles preferred.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret repair manuals and wiring diagrams.
  • Basic computer skills and electronic diagnostic tool experience.
  • Valid driver's license; CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs and maintenance per dealer and manufacturer specs.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, drivetrain, HVAC, braking, engine, suspension, and other systems.
  • Document diagnostics, repairs, and recommendations on repair orders.
  • Use diagnostic equipment to isolate faults and interpret test results.
  • Communicate repair needs and delays to Service Advisor promptly.
  • Obtain supervisor approval for additional repairs as required.
  • Conduct road tests to verify repairs and assist with diagnostics.
  • Track labor hours accurately to the repair order.

Position Summary

The Service Technician functions as a skilled-level technician who can perform diagnostics and repairs across multiple vehicle systems while developing expertise in specialized areas of repair. This position is responsible for accurately diagnosing and repairing commercial vehicles while maintaining productivity, quality, and safety standards.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Perform repairs and maintenance according to dealership and manufacturer specifications.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, drivetrain, HVAC, braking, engine, suspension, and other vehicle systems.
  • Identify required repairs and perform corrective actions efficiently and accurately.
  • Document all diagnostics, repairs, and recommendations clearly on repair orders.
  • Utilize diagnostic equipment and software to isolate faults and interpret test results.
  • Review repair orders and determine the most efficient repair procedures.
  • Communicate additional repair needs, delays, or changes to the Service Advisor promptly.
  • Provide detailed repair information to the Shop Foreman for accurate repair order documentation.
  • Obtain supervisor approval for additional repairs when required.
  • Conduct road tests to verify repairs and assist with diagnostics.
  • Track labor hours accurately to the appropriate repair order.
  • Interact professionally with customers and coworkers.
  • Assist fellow technicians with repair procedures and technical support.
  • Participate in OEM training programs, technical schools, and certification opportunities.
  • Stay current with technical service bulletins and manufacturer updates.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Properly care for and maintain dealership-owned tools and equipment.
  • Follow all company safety policies and report hazards or safety concerns immediately.
Qualifications
  • Previous diesel, heavy-duty truck, automotive, or commercial vehicle repair experience preferred.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic information.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with electronic diagnostic tools.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • CDL or ability to obtain a CDL preferred.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and move heavy components and equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
