Job summary

DALLAS ENVIRONMENT in Hutchins, TX is seeking a General Service Technician to perform diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on heavy trucks. You will work with the service staff to meet daily goals and ensure 100% customer satisfaction.

The role requires 2+ years in automotive service, a High School Diploma or GED, and a CDL Class B license (or ability to obtain within six months). Strong communication and leadership skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years in automotive service or related field.
  • CDL Class B license required or obtainable within six months of hire.
  • Knowledge of repair principles in heavy truck repair industry.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce company policies as defined in SMEG Handbook.
  • Interact with service staff to plan daily work.
  • Maintain clean, safe work areas and proper tool storage.
  • Provide accurate labor time estimates to Shop Foreman.
  • Provide complete parts lists for repairs and services.
  • Engage in quality checks with Shop Foreman and managers.
  • Maintain reports and paperwork in a timely, legible manner.
  • Report potential problems to management before they arise.
  • Maintain positive relationships with customers and employees.

Summary

Unless otherwise specified, the General Service Technician is responsible for all daily internal service-related interactions. The responsibility includes, but is not limited to, a dedication to the company’s mission statement, to company profitability and 100% customer satisfaction.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Enforce all company policies as defined in the SMEG Company Handbook
  • Interact with entire service staff
  • Maintain clean/safe work areas, cleanliness of tool and ensure proper tool storage, for both personal and company owned
  • Maintain neat and professional personal appearance at all times
  • Perform proper and accurate vehicle diagnosis, services and repairs
  • Perform quality repairs and services in a timely manner
  • Provide Shop Foreman and Assistant Manager(s) with accurate estimated labor times
  • Provide Shop Foreman and Assistant Manager(s) with complete parts needed list
  • Participate in quality check process with Shop Foreman and Assistant Manager(s)
  • Understanding of productivity goals and review for areas in need of improvement
  • Follow company processes and procedures as defined in the SMEG operations manual
  • Participate in morning meetings with service staff to plan the day
  • Maintain accurate, timely and legible company designed reports and paperwork
  • Notice and report potential problem areas to management before they arise
  • Maintain a successful working relationship with outside vendors
Qualifications
  • The Service Technician must be able to clearly demonstrate their ability to set and reach performance goals set forth by the owner/operator.
  • Must be willing to travel to other site locations and stations as needed.
  • Experience within the Refuse and Environmental industry
  • Proven track record of success
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Exceptional organizational methods (Work area, Safety, Tool & Equipment Organization)
  • Possess exceptional leadership and motivational skills
  • Dedication to customer service and business success
  • Ability to engage in and maintain positive relationships with employees and customers
  • Computer skills: Must be proficient with Microsoft Outlook Email, Microsoft Word & Excel programs as well with any company provided software
Education and/or Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 Plus years with experience in an automotive service related industry and/or technical school certificate.
  • Clean driving record with a Class B non-exempt CDL driver license or able to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Knowledge of repair principles and procedures in all areas of the Heavy Truck Repair Industry
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • ASE Heavy Truck Certifications are a plus
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to walk stairs and/or climb ladders. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
