Job summary

PFME is seeking a skilled Service Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair centrifugal air compressors, desiccant air dryers, and related equipment. The candidate will travel to customer facilities across the Southeast, mostly in the NC/TN/SC region, and must be able to read schematics and troubleshoot control systems.

The role requires strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, the ability to perform preventive maintenance, and the commitment to safety and quality

Qualifications

• High school diploma, military background, or GED preferred.
• 3+ years in industrial maintenance, field service, or compressor service.
• Experience with centrifugal compressors, desiccant dryers, or rotating equipment.
• Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems (24VDC, 120VAC, 480VAC).
• Ability to troubleshoot motors, VFDs, PLC controls, and instrumentation.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on centrifugal air compressors, desiccant dryers, filters, cooling systems, and related equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control system issues.
• Conduct system startup, commissioning, and performance testing.
• Troubleshoot PLC-based control systems, VFDs, motor starters, sensors, and instrumentation.
• Complete vibration analysis, temperature monitoring, and inspections.
• Inspect and service air dryer systems, including valves, actuators, purge systems, desiccant beds, and controls.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and manuals.
• Respond to emergency service calls and provide timely support.
• Prepare detailed service reports with findings, repairs, recommendations, parts.
• Promote customer satisfaction by professional communication and expertise.
• Follow safety policies including lockout/tagout and site requirements.
• Assist with equipment upgrades, retrofits, and system optimization.
• Support sales by identifying improvement opportunities and communicating findings.

Position Summary

PFME (www.pfm-eng.com) is seeking a skilled and motivated Service Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair centrifugal air compressors, desiccant air dryers, and related compressed air system equipment. The ideal candidate will be based in possess strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, and be willing to travel to customer facilities throughout the Southeast.

• Perform preventive maintenance on centrifugal air compressors, desiccant dryers, filters, cooling systems, and associated equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control system issues.
• Conduct system startup, commissioning, and performance testing.
• Troubleshoot PLC-based control systems, VFDs, motor starters, sensors, and instrumentation.
• Complete vibration analysis, temperature monitoring, and operational inspections.
• Inspect and service air dryer systems, including valves, actuators, purge systems, desiccant beds, and controls.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Respond to emergency service calls and provide timely technical support to customers.
• Prepare detailed service reports documenting findings, repairs, recommendations, and parts required.

• Assist with equipment upgrades, retrofits, and system optimization projects.
• Support sales efforts by identifying equipment improvement opportunities and communicating findings to management.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, military background, or GED preferred.
• 3+ years of industrial maintenance, field service, or compressor service experience preferred.
• Experience with centrifugal compressors, compressed air systems, desiccant dryers, or rotating equipment strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems (24VDC, 120VAC, 480VAC three-phase).
• Ability to troubleshoot motors, VFDs, PLC controls, and instrumentation.
• Proficient with hand tools, test equipment, and diagnostic instruments.
• Ability to read technical manuals, electrical drawings, and engineering documentation.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Ability to obtain customer-required safety certifications as needed.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and access industrial equipment.
• Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and walking.
• Ability to work in manufacturing, power generation, chemical, and industrial environments.

Travel Requirements

• Approximately 50% travel required.
• Periodic overnight travel and occasional weekend work.
• Company vehicle, laptop, cell phone, and travel expenses provided.

Preferred Experience

• Ingersoll Rand, Atlas Copco, FS-Elliott, Sulzer, Cooper, Elliott, or Turbo Air centrifugal compressors.
• Heated and heatless desiccant dryers.
• Industrial controls and PLC troubleshooting.
• Power generation, manufacturing, chemical processing, or air separation plants.
• OSHA 10/30, MSHA, or industrial safety training.
