Job summary

SWS Equipment is seeking a Service Technician to install, repair, troubleshoot, maintain, and retrofit equipment at customer sites or in the shop. The role requires learning product specifics and readiness to work on refuse machinery including balers, compactors, and trucks.

Description

Position Summary

The Service Technician is responsible for system and component installations, repairs, troubleshooting, maintenance, and retrofits to customers’ equipment or machinery. In this position, you will serve our customers directly on location or in the shop. They will work with our Internal Service Dispatchers and Coordinators to give the customers the best experience possible. It is important that this person has the ability to learn and retain product specific information as it pertains to this position. As SWS is a refuse company, the candidate must be prepared to work on refuse equipment, including stationary equipment like balers and compactors and mobile equipment such as trash trucks, septic trucks, street sweepers, and other related machinery. On the job training as well as formal professional week-long training courses; work under supervision of lead technician.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensure health & safety is the top priority by adhering to all policies, processes, and safety protocols
  • Read and follow engineering (hydraulic & electrical) schematic drawings and technical specifications
  • Prepare new equipment for delivery to customers
  • Provide customer guidance for improvement
  • Assemble, test, and service systems and components
  • Travel to job sites as needed (up to 25% travel associated with this position)
  • Manage workflow to ensure the company meets customer required dates
  • Follow the process of paperwork requirements for billing, reports, and other documentation
  • Work in environmental conditions to include periods of extreme heat and cold
  • Execute other duties as assigned

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Journeyman-level experience is highly preferred
  • Strong mechanical repair expertise with minimal supervision required
  • Proficiency with technology and technical systems
  • Demonstrates a proactive approach to problem-solving and tasks
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities while maintaining an organized and efficient workflow to ensure timely task completion
  • Experience with welding processes and techniques
  • Familiarity with electrical and hydraulic schematics
  • Possession of a comprehensive set of hand tools (beyond basic tools) is required
  • Experience with refuse trucks is preferred
  • CDL Class A or B certification is strongly preferred
  • Mechanical certifications are desirable, but not mandatory
