Job description

Service Team Lead - 2nd Shift

Location: Janesville, WI

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide associates with objectives and standards specifying results to be achieved. Provide tools, training, and support as needed. Create a motivating environment that supports each team member's development.

  1. Demonstrate leadership capabilities.
  2. Monitor teams of up to 5 technicians.
  3. Be a self-starter: motivated, eager to learn, and committed to advancing within the company.
  4. Work independently with minimal supervision.
  5. Promote teamwork and effective communication within production and the company.
  6. Address associate issues and concerns promptly and effectively.
  7. Adhere to all legal and company policies and procedures.
  8. Participate actively in training both new and existing associates.
  9. Maintain effective communication with team members.
  10. Conduct performance coaching and counseling as needed.
  11. Assist in on-the-job training of team members.
  12. Read and interpret orders, specifications, blueprints, instructions, and labels, including hazardous warnings.
  13. Ensure a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  14. Utilize computers to perform tasks and track jobs and parts.
  15. Maintain records and prints of specials.
  16. Use various parts to ensure proper job execution.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.
SPECIFIC JOB FUNCTIONS:
Productivity

Efficiently use and coordinate resources to meet goals while maintaining quality and customer satisfaction.

  1. Hold daily team meetings to assign work and track objectives.
  2. Monitor and control work hours to meet profit goals.
  3. Utilize resources effectively, including overtime, equipment, and materials.
  4. Plan and execute daily work efficiently.
  5. Coordinate with other departments.
  6. Achieve delivery goals, including on-time and daily deliveries.
  7. Manage inventory levels appropriately.
  8. Report daily progress to the shop supervisor.
Innovation / Initiative

Apply creativity to safety, personnel, productivity, and quality challenges.

  1. Develop new or improved processes to enhance productivity and customer satisfaction.
  2. Collaborate with supervisors and vendors to find solutions to problems.

Commit to quality standards and processes, ensuring work meets or exceeds requirements.

  1. Lead by example in quality attitudes and leadership.
  2. Follow established procedures and implement necessary changes.
  3. Participate in daily truck audits and follow up on issues.
  4. Monitor quality in process and rework, communicating actions taken.
  5. Work actively to reduce defects and improve quality metrics.
  6. Maintain quality improvement initiatives.

Lead by example to foster a safe work environment and ensure compliance with safety policies.

  1. Aim for zero lost-time injuries and OSHA recordables.
  2. Enforce safety policies and practices.
  3. Maintain daily housekeeping standards.
  4. Use safety programs and meetings to enhance safety performance.
  5. Exhibit safety leadership and attitude.
EXPERTISE & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Perform truck body repairs and diagnostics on hydraulic systems.
  • Install rear finishes, including lift gates.
  • Operate power and air tools, acetylene torches, and perform welding.
  • Operate mono-bolt guns, lift cranes, and aerial lifts.
  • Perform advanced electrical wiring and diagnosis.
  • Interpret blueprints and read tape measures.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Willingness to work overtime, including Saturdays, and rotating shifts.
  • Ability to stand for 8-10 hours, lift up to 35 lbs, and work in confined spaces.
  • Understand quality policies with a focus on zero defects and safety regulations.
  • Support continuous improvement activities like 5's, Lean, TPM.
  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred but not required.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    This role involves working in a manufacturing environment, requiring standing, walking, handling, reaching, climbing, and lifting up to 35 pounds. Repetitive hand tasks and working at heights or in confined spaces may be necessary.
