Job description

Summary

This position is responsible for assisting the Service Department with customer service needs, opening and closing of work orders, pre‑delivery activity of new equipment, repair and reconditioning of new and used trade‑in equipment, daily shop operations, field service functions and delivery or vehicle functions. Management reserves the right to assign additional duties or projects as necessary.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Handles phone calls, advises customers on technical problems, schedules customer service needs, and plans assigned jobs into work orders.
  • Assists in appraisal and quotes of repair work coming into the shop and discusses requirements with the service manager.
  • Assists in scheduling shop assignments, field service work, and truck pickup and delivery of equipment.
  • Assists in processing warranty claims.
  • Assists in establishing or adjusting work procedures to meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Assists in opening and closing of work orders to ensure timely closure.
  • Supervises all shop activities when the Service Manager is away from the branch.
  • All employees are expected to adhere to the safety policies of Dobbs Equipment and its clients.
  • Following the safety policies of Dobbs is a condition of employment and is everyone’s responsibility.
Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Supervisor experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent with one‑year post‑high‑school education in heavy equipment or two years mechanical experience as a service technician.
  • A 2‑year degree and familiarity with industrial equipment such as construction or forestry equipment is preferred.
  • Highly developed organization and communication skills.
  • Broad‑based computer skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret business periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers and the public.
  • Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
  • Ability to apply basic algebra, statistics and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of variables in situations with limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Valid driver’s license and forklift certification.
Physical Demands

The employee must use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; stand, walk, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally the employee must sit and lift or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must have specific vision abilities.

Work Environment

The work environment may expose the employee to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outdoor weather. The noise level is usually quiet.
