Job description

Summary

This position is responsible for assisting the Service Department with customer service needs, opening and closing work orders, pre‑delivery activities for new equipment, repair and reconditioning of new and used trade‑in equipment, daily shop operations, field service coordination, and vehicle or equipment delivery functions. Management reserves the right to assign additional duties as needed.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Handles phone calls, advises customers on technical problems, schedules service needs, plans assigned jobs to work orders and specifies job instructions.
  • Assists with appraisal and quotes of repair work, discusses service requirements with the Service Manager.
  • Schedules shop assignments, field service work, and truck requirements for pickup and delivery.
  • Processes warranty claims.
  • Adjusts work procedures to meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Opens and closes work orders to ensure timely completion.
  • Supervises all shop activities when the Service Manager is absent.
  • Adheres strictly to the safety policies of Dobbs Equipment and its clients.
Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Supervisor experience.
Education, Skill, and Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent with one year post‑high school education in heavy equipment, or two years mechanical experience as a service technician.
  • 2‑year degree and familiarity with industrial equipment (construction or forestry) is preferred.
  • Highly developed organization and communication skills.
  • Broad computer skills.
Language Skills
  • Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
  • Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Apply basic algebra, statistics, and geometry concepts.
Reasoning Ability
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
  • Interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid driver’s license and forklift certification.
Physical Demands

Required to use hands, reach with arms, speak, and hear. Frequently stand, walk, climb/balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally sit and lift up to 50 pounds. Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather. Noise level usually quiet.
