Job summary

Dobbs Equipment, LLC is seeking a Service Department support role to assist with customer service needs, open/close work orders, and support pre-delivery, repair, and reconditioning of equipment. This role includes daily shop operations, field service coordination, and vehicle/delivery tasks.

You will help schedule shop and field service, process warranty claims, and ensure timely completion while adhering to safety policies. Strong communication and computer skills are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with one-year post high school education in heavy equipment or two years mechanical experience as a service technician.
  • A 2-year degree and familiarity with industrial equipment is preferred.
  • Strong organization and communication skills; broad computer literacy.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical materials.
  • Ability to write reports and communicate with customers.

Responsibilities

  • Handle phone calls and advise customers on technical problems.
  • Assist in securing quotes for repair work and discuss required service.
  • Schedule shop and field service, and arrange pickup/delivery of equipment.
  • Process warranty claims.
  • Open and close work orders to meet deadlines.
  • Supervise activities when Service Manager is away.
  • Adhere to safety policies.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Handles phone calls, advises customers on technical problems, scheduling customer service needs, planning assigned jobs to work orders containing job information and specifying job instruction, identifying customer and machine.
  • Assists in the appraisal and quotes of repair work coming into the shop and discusses with service manager the service required, both in parts and labor.
  • Assists in scheduling shop assignments, field service work, and truck requirements for pickup and delivery of equipment.
  • Assists in processing warranty claims.
  • Assists in establishing or adjusting work procedures to meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Assists in opening and closing of work orders to ensure timely closing to meet company goals.
  • Supervises activities when Service Manager is away from Branch.

Qualifications

  • Valid Drivers License
  • Supervisor experience
Education, Skill, And/or Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent with one-year post high school education in heavy equipment or two years mechanical experience as a service technician.
  • A 2-year degree and familiarity with industrial equipment, such as construction or forestry equipment is preferred.
  • Organization and communication skills must be highly developed.
  • Computer skills need to be broad based.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, statistics, and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
