Service Reliability Engineer I (Finance)

About the Team

Yahoo's Global Network Infrastructure team (GNIS) manages the core Network Infrastructure and shared services supporting all Yahoo services globally, including CDN, Sports, News, Finance, Weather, advertising engines, video, and search. We design and build scalable, high-performance networks, develop storage strategies and automation, manage global name resolution and routing, provide capacity and performance consulting, and oversee Yahoo-wide UNIX distributions & components and connectivity to large-scale public cloud providers.

About the Role

Work on diverse projects focusing on the availability, performance, scalability, and resiliency of Yahoo's production network environments, applying industry networking standards practically and theoretically.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

• 3+ years of experience
• Experience with large-scale global network environments (production, backbone, corporate)
• Experience maintaining enterprise LAN/WAN, wireless, authentication, and VPN infrastructures
• Knowledge of current networking systems: routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, load balancers, IP protocols
• Advanced experience with Juniper, Cisco, and Ciena
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, L2/L3 protocols, LAN, Spanning-tree, WAN, IPv4, IPv6, BGP, ISIS, OSPF, MPLS, QoS/CoS, MACSec
• Hands-on experience with fiber optics, OTDR, BERT, WDM, ROADM
• Knowledge of OSI layers focusing on TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, MPLS-TE, VXLAN/EVPN, Anycast
• Experience automating with Python, Perl, JavaScript, or XML+xpath
• Excellent communication, documentation, and diagramming skills
• Ability to create SOPs and automate operational tasks

Responsibilities

• Resolve complex network issues in tier 2-3 capacity
• Support network uptime and health through monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance
• Design, deploy, and scale complex production networks
• Develop advanced tools and automation for network deployment and operation
• Apply knowledge of IP routing protocols and support hybrid data center and cloud environments
• Manage capacity, tune performance, troubleshoot issues
• Collaborate on automation solutions with architecture and infrastructure teams
• Participate in postmortem analyses to improve network design and operations
• Perform hardware and software updates
• Update policies and document procedures
• Mentor junior staff on network technologies and operations
