Job summary

Equity Residential is seeking a Maintenance Manager in New York to lead a on-site maintenance team and deliver top-tier resident experiences. You will blend hands-on trades with leadership, planning, and a continuous focus on quality, safety and compliance.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong hands-on maintenance experience across plumbing, electrical, appliances, HVAC, interior repairs and painting.
  • Experience leading, coaching or supervising maintenance staff.
  • Knowledge of apartment housing laws and safe working practices.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • English communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work any shift, including weekends and on-call duties.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform demanding tasks.
  • Own smartphone and compliant with security requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of maintenance professionals.
  • Ensure maintenance requests are completed promptly and to Equity Residential standards.
  • Provide hands-on maintenance support across electrical, plumbing, HVAC, appliances, painting and repairs.
  • Oversee preparation of market-ready apartments and maintain common areas and grounds.

As a Maintenance Manager, you'll play a vital role in ensuring residents enjoy a well-maintained and welcoming home:
  • Leading, coaching and developing a team of maintenance professionals
  • Ensuring maintenance requests are completed promptly, professionally and to Equity Residential standards

What You'll Need To Thrive
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Strong hands-on maintenance experience across plumbing, electrical, appliances, HVAC, interior repairs and painting
  • Experience leading, coaching or supervising maintenance staff (or clear leadership potential)
  • Knowledge of federal and state apartment housing laws and safe working practices
  • Valid driver's licence, good driving record, auto insurance and reliable transportation
  • Confident use of smartphones and maintenance software, with strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Flexibility to work any assigned shift, including weekends, and availability for emergency on-call duties
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs, work at heights, kneel, crouch, shovel, and perform a wide range of physical tasks
  • Own smartphone for certain job duties, compliant with company security requirements

Bonus Qualifications
  • Trade school certifications
  • EPA Section 608 Type I, II or Universal certification
  • Experience in residential or commercial property management, hospitality or retail
