Job description

Job Title: Service Journeyman (Billings)

Location: Billings, Montana

Job Type: Full time

General Purpose

Coordinates service activities concerning the installation of sign equipment, investigation and resolution of customer reports or observations of technical issues with sign equipment, and prevention of future operational or service difficulties through personal action or delegation.

Must reside in Billings or surrounding area and be willing to travel, including overnight stays.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Delivers serviced signs and equipment
• Drives YESCO sign and equipment service vehicles to customer locations
• Restocks and maintains parts and inventory in service vehicles
• Safely operates lift equipment to perform sign service assessment and repair
• Installs new or modified equipment at customers’ facilities
• Reviews service reports, work orders, and documentation
• Inspects malfunctioning or damaged product to determine nature and scope of problem
• Analyzes review and inspection findings to determine source of problem and recommends repair, replacement, or other corrective action
• Provides or coordinates with sales to deliver service pricing quotes
• Troubleshoots and repairs sign equipment and structures
• Performs electrical troubleshooting and repair to ensure functionality of electrical signs and lights
• Prepares and uses materials consistent with specifications of job service orders
• Operates metal cutting equipment to accurately cut materials to service specifications
• Operates welding equipment to weld sign parts together
• Implements and maintains quality control and safety during service
• Sands, polishes, and cleans materials to be used for sign service
• Layouts materials for sign service
• Glues sign parts together
• Bends and shapes sign parts according to service specifications
• Touches up paint and performs detail work on signs
• Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs to service department equipment and vehicle
• Provides a communication link between customer and company to ensure effective service
• Completes work order and service documentation for work hours and material costs
• Trains new service employees and apprentices
• Performs duties to ensure the department meets expectations and deadlines

Marginal Duties & Responsibilities

• Responds to emergency service calls
• Practices safety while working as part of the service rappel team
• Maintains a clean and organized work area to ensure a safe environment
• Performs other functions as necessary or assigned

Training & Qualifications

Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements include:

• High school diploma or GED
• Eight or more years of experience in electrical sign service
• Four or more years of experience in power tool operation, welding, electrical, or related areas
• Completion of the YESCO or other electrical sign service apprenticeship program, or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply specification documents, coding documents, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to perform geometric and algebraic calculations
• Ability to move, lift, and carry materials, equipment, parts, and completed projects
• Effective communication skills
• Valid CDL driver’s license or ability to obtain one

Physical/Sensory Demands

Work is typically performed outdoors, often at heights, in varying weather conditions, and poses electrical shock risk. Frequent noise is present.

Employee duties require standing, walking, sitting, handling, reaching, balance, climbing, rappelling, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, and hearing. Must occasionally move objects exceeding 75 lbs. Vision requirements include distance and close‑up clarity (20 inches or less) and ability to focus objects sharply.
